Position Summary:
Since 2017, our Mobile Market has provided under-resourced communities with a reliable source of healthy, local produce at an affordable price. The Mobile Market carries a wide variety of vegetables sourced from our own farms,PowissetandAppleton.The Mobile Market Manager develops and maintains community partnerships and manages the distribution of produce in Boston and Chelsea through a 60 member HIP CSA, 3 mobile market sites, and a 50 member fully subsidized produce share, and occasional pop-up markets. This is a high-energy position, with retail and community engagement components. We seek someone who is passionate about and has experience with food access initiatives, has excellent people skills, has some retail experience, and is comfortable multi-tasking and juggling multiple responsibilities.This position is part-time starting in the beginning of June 2024.
Pay Rate: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
In This Role You Will:
Essential Functions:
Plan contents of weekly CSA shares
Place weekly orders with farmers for the CSA shares & markets
Receive, store and pack produce at Powisset Farm in Dover, MA.
Pick-up weekly produce orders from Appleton Farm as needed.
Regularly transport produce from Powisset Farm in Dover, to CSA/market locations in Boston and Chelsea.
Manage all aspects of mobile market (farmer’s market) sites in East Boston and Chelsea (manage market supplies, manage sales and coupons, manage market set-up and take-down)
Supervise the Mobile Market Assistant and weekly volunteers.
Manage Mobile Market packing space and cooler at Powisset Farm.
Occasionally helping the farm crew with harvesting/weeding
Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
Qualifications:
Ability to safely lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
Language skills a plus (particularly Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Cape Verdean Creole).
Knowledge of Boston neighborhoods and communities a plus.
Retail and/or customer service experience, including experience with inventory management and a POS system.
Experience/comfort driving a mid-size van
Knowledge of local food and farming in New England.
Experience with community engagement and food access initiatives
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and experience/comfort driving larger vans/trucks.
Satisfactory CORI (criminal background check).
DOT physical exam for driving
This is a full-time, seasonal position. Saturday hours are required every other week throughout the market season, as are some additional weekend and evening hours.
Schedule:
This position runs from June 3 – November 30, 25-30 hours/week
Schedule alternates every other week between Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday & Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday, plus occasional planned pop-up markets
