    Title: Student Financial Services Specialist
    Location: Fayette, IA

    Position Summary
    Responsible for performing the daily functions relating to student accounts including, but not limited to, third-party billing, student payments, student refunds, and collection on unpaid accounts.

    Position Responsibilities
    • The primary responsibility is to provide students with the highest level of customer service possible in accordance with UIU/Student Accounts/Financial Aid policies and procedures.
    • Answering telephone calls and responding to student requests and inquiries.
    • Request and collect financial aid documentation and other information for student financial aid files.
    • Provide the Financial Aid Office funding information from outside resources, including veteran’s benefits and other private sources of eligibility.
    • Responsible for providing daily processing of student financial aid documentation, verification, making corrections to student aid reports, and recording/updating checklists and comment screens.
    • Provide additional student services and remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development conferences/courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.
    • Provide payment assistance for present and prospective students which includes: receipt and post payments promptly on a daily basis which includes credit cards & checks.
    • Establish and monitor student payment plans; review students who are making payments and make sure they are current on their payments.
    • Provide requested documentation for students to obtain tuition reimbursement from a third party.
    • Coordinate and invoice third parties for tuition (employers, military, VA, Workforce, etc.)
    • Tracks VA payments of Chapter 33 and Vocational Rehabilitation.
    • Oversee AR aging report and overdue accounts initiating collections letter process when necessary; track students that are sent to collections.
    • Add/Remove AR holds as necessary
    • Monitor the overpayment process and verify the release of funds for students.
    • Responsible for maintaining and keeping all communication channels open between students, faculty, and staff so that the office environment is friendly, helpful, and efficient.
    • High level of customer service skills, communication skills, and the ability to make independent decisions.
    • Ability to keep detailed records, such as communication with students.
    • Ability to work efficiently under frequent and demanding timelines.
    • Double check loan funds that are disbursed to each student account are accurate based on their enrollment status.
    • Review student accounts for withdrawal adjustments.
    • Discuss with students about their A/R hold and options for payment for payment or extra financial aid.
    • Verify discounts for students after the start of each term.
    • Ensure month-end processes are completed in a timely manner.
    • Walk students through the process of setting up military tuition assistance.
    • Maintains a thorough understanding of all payment/program options.
    • Assist at the front counter when needed
    • Serve on University committees as needed.

    Qualifications
    • Associate’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Business or a related field. Bookkeeping knowledge is needed.
    • Microsoft Word and Excel skills are required.
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Detail oriented.
    • Capability of handling multiple duties and tasks.
    • Understand University policies and procedures.
