Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     SCI is looking to add a Safety Director to our Construction Operations Team! We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-starter with leadership experience and a mind for construction and job site safety. The Safety Director will plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ensure safety throughout all departments and jobsites of SCI. In this position, you will ensure the safety of each Team member at each of our job sites, as well as provide up-to-date safety training across the company. This position requires work across active job sites and is based in our Logansport office with some work out of our Lebanon, Indiana, satellite office. The Safety Director will work within our Operation’s Department and report to the Chief Operations Officer.



    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Chair SCI Safety Committee in effort to collaborate with all levels of SCI in developing an industry leading safety culture and programming.
    • Develop and implement workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
    • Conduct Safety Training at New Hire Orientation.
    • Conduct Safety Training for new hires post-orientation.
      • OSHA 10 within 30 days of hire.
      • Mobile Elevated Work Platform within 90 days of hire.
      • CPR/First Aid within 90 days of hire.
    • Conduct annual Safety Training for all SCI Team members.
      • Weekly Toolbox Talks
      • Every other Month Supervisor Training Meetings
      • Quarterly Lunch & Learns
      • Safety Training at Annual Wellness Summit
      • CPR/First Aid Renewals
      • Maintain Team members certifications in all safety related fields.
    • Provide Team members with required safety training, information on emergency protocols and proper use of safety equipment and PPE.
    • Review and investigation of all workplace incidents and injuries.
    • Reporting to all Federal and State OSHA agencies, as required.
    • Review and reporting of all SCI close-call reporting on a monthly basis to Safety Committee.
    • Updating of all SCI, Client, and trade organization safety databases, including:
      • SCI Monthly Reporting as needed for Work Comp renewal
      • CCS – Coalition for Construction Safety
      • ABC – Associated Builders and Contractors
      • ISN - Client portal
      • Avetta -Client Portal
      • Appruv – Client portal
    • Monthly jobsite safety inspections completed, documented, and routed to VP of Operations, PM’s, and jobsite superintendent.
      • Every large job gets inspected twice a month
      • Every small job gets inspected no less than once a month


    Education, Qualifications and Experience

    • Must have valid driver’s license
    • Knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation
    • Have or can obtain certifications in:
      • CPR/First Aid Training
      • MEWP Training
      • Telehandler Training
      • OSHA 500/550
