Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Job Summary and Qualifications

    Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Safety will manage business continuity and Emergency Preparedness (EP) activities for the facility which include the development, documentation, maintenance, and implementation of plans and procedures, recovery strategies and solutions as well as trainings and exercises. Further, this individual will act as the point person after a disruption to lead the recovery efforts of the organization.

    What you will do in this role:

    • You will implement and manage all Business Continuity and EP program activities.
    • You will chair the Emergency Preparedness Steering committee.
    • You will be the point person on incident command center operations and planning.
    • You will conduct annual hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA), business impact analysis and business process analysis.
    • You will identify mission-essential services or departments.
    • You will develop and maintain the facility-wide business continuity plan (BCP).
    • You will consult with senior business managers and team leaders on the development, implementation and maintenance of department-specific BCPs.
    • You will identify and implement the BCP update schedule.
    • You will maintain all hospital accreditation & licensing emergency management standards and requirements as it pertains to business continuity.
    • You will facilitate implementation of HEICS Plan.
    • Your role ensures the privacy of our patients and confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI).
    • Your role promotes customer service initiatives.
    • Your role maintains disaster readiness supplies and equipment with a clean working environment.
    • You will actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
    • You will develop and implement annual training and exercise schedule.
    • You will serve as hospital liaison to the Tennessee Highland Rim Healthcare Coalition.
    • You will conduct trainings and exercises to evaluate the plans.
    • You will maintain all training and exercise records.
    • If activated, you will participate in the Hospital Incident Command Center.
    • You will be the point person on all BCP and EP activations.
    • You will manage the after action report development and review.
    • You will receive advanced training & updates on: Code Ready; HCA Alert; HEICS; B-NICE and Decontamination.
    • Your role meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives established annually as listed on the Performance Management Plan.
    • You will correspond with other TriStar Division and Healthcare Coalition Emergency Preparedness coordinators to plan education calendar and develop class objectives.
    • You will provide education per training calendar on all training elements listed.
    • You will act as liaison with community organizations and provide community education.
    • You will attend in-service presentations, and complete mandatory education, including, but not limited to, infection control, patient safety, quality improvement, MSDS and OSHA standards.

    What qualifications you will need:
    • Associate Degree, Bachelors Degree or Master's preferred.
    • Knowledge of hospital operations and interactions.
    • Experience with the coordination of preparedness, response and recovery processes associated with healthcare emergency management and business continuity.
    • 5-7 years of professional experience in business continuity, emergency management/disaster preparedness, or related field.
    • Experience conducting BIAs, BPAs, interviews, and writing BC plans.
    • Knowledge of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) structure.
    • Hospital Disaster Management Training (HDMT).
    • Experience with Regional Mutual Aid Plan / Hospital Preparedness Program / Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response (EMS/HPP/ASPR) audits and HSEEP exercise planning structure.
    • Joint Commission EM chapter knowledge.
    • Current license in Tennessee as a Registered Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Technician – P.

    Parkridge Medical Center is a 270 bed hospital. We are near downtown Chattanooga. We feature comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. These services include cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment. These services include intensive care, orthopedic and spine surgery, and rehabilitation. The facility includes a state of the art neurosurgery program. Patients also have access to OB-GYN services. Patients have access to a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They also have access to (NICU) and behavioral health treatment centers for children and adults.
