Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. The Director of Aquatics and Safety leads the aquatic and safety programs including oversight and the quality delivery of: swim lessons, private lessons, aquatic exercise classes, lifeguard certification classes, CPR and First Aid classes, safety trainings, and aquatic training events; as well as overseeing the Building Supervisor department. The Director of Aquatics and Safety will have direct supervision responsibilities of lifeguards, swim instructors, aquatic instructors, and building supervisors. The goal is to provide an exceptional experience for all who enter our building.
1. Bachelor's degree in related field.
2. Two or more years of supervisory experience in the YMCA is strongly preferred .
3. Certified in CPR/AED, FA, and YMCA/ARC Lifeguard Trainer and ARC Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator Certification. Also requires trainer-level certification in YMCA/ARC Swim Lessons. If not already attained, these must be achieved within 90 days of hire.
4. YMCA Team Leader certificate within three years.
1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations, ensuring that pools meet all health and safety standards including a clean environment, appropriate air and water temperature, chemical balance, and timely pool water testing and backwashing.
4. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
5. Responsible for the safety of the building and scheduling safety drills and department trainings throughout the year.
6. Supervises and supports lifeguards, swim instructors, and building supervisors.
7. Coordinates and oversees the Building Supervisor department through leadership and ongoing training to maintain positive relationships between staff and members.
8. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
9. Assists in YMCA special events and is responsible for quarterly senior special event programming.
10. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
