Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     We are currently in search of a highly skilled and experienced Safety Director to assume a leadership role in overseeing safety and compliance within our transportation company. The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all our operations adhere to relevant DOT regulations and standards, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.


    Responsibilities:

    1. Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with DOT regulations and standards.
    2. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential risks.
    3. Collaborate with various departments to ensure consistent adherence to safety protocols across the organization.
    4. Investigate and report all accidents and incidents to both management and the appropriate regulatory agencies.
    5. Manage and supervise the company's drug and alcohol testing program.
    6. Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, drivers, and contractors.
    7. Monitor and analyze safety data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    8. Engage with external stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and industry groups, to promote safety best practices and compliance.



    Requirements

     Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., transportation, occupational health and safety, or engineering) or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation safety, with a proven track record of ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and standards.
    • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to transportation safety, including FMCSA, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence others to adopt safety best practices.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of identifying and mitigating risks and developing effective solutions.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapting to changing priorities and requirements.
    • Willingness to travel up to 70% of the time to oversee safety operations at various locations.
    • Certification as a Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or a similar certification is preferred.
