Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Director of Safety
Position Summary
This position will be responsible for strategic development and leadership of the organization’s safety programs and initiatives. This position will direct and coordinate safety activities to ensure alignment with Farmer Company core values and safety programs while also maintaining compliance with safety and health laws and regulations. The position will provide leadership and guidance to all safety professionals as well as effectively collaborate with operational leaders. This position will be responsible for our internal audit process to include reporting results in an effective and timely manner.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Defines, develops, and implements programs to ensure compliance and proper engagement with rules and regulations of the DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, MSHA, local regulations, and company standards
• Identify and recommend improvements to health & safety systems to reduce costs, increase productivity and efficiency, and improve the overall safety culture
• Monitor the development and revision of applicable health & safety regulations for potential impacts on locations and operations
• Coordinate tracking of company health & safety performance metrics
• Strategically plan and execute a robust internal corporate health & safety audit process
• Develops, implements, and tracks safety training and awareness programs.
• Investigates, analyzes, and reports any workplace injuries, company property/asset incidents, or unsafe events/near misses and suggests plan of action to address in a timely manner
• Works with insurance/claims team to ensure appropriate and timely action on all incidents involving company property and/or workers compensation cases
• Complete special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
• 10 years of progressive safety experience in the construction industry preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in relative field
• Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, 30-hour Construction Safety and Industry Standards preferred
• Demonstrated experience developing positive relationships, including effective resolution of compliance issues with state and federal agencies
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and complete multiple priorities/projects simultaneously
• Ability to protect confidential information
• A working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• In-depth knowledge of: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Federal, state DOT, OHSA, MSHA, and other related regulations
• Proven ability to build, develop, and lead a dynamic team of Safety Professionals
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively above, below, and across the organization as well as with regulatory authorities, government officials, and major customers
