Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     AMI and Vos Glass are commercial exterior envelope contractors specializing in high performance building facades. AMI specializes in exterior metal panel and insulation systems, and Vos Glass in glass and glazing.

    AMI and Vos Glass are two separate organizations that partner together closely on envelope projects and share many of the same processes and systems. This safety director role would service and report to both organizations separately. Many aspects of the role will be similar between AMI and Vos Glass, but both organizations will have their own unique set of needs, responsibilities, and office locations.

    We are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our teams that has a passion for safety, education, and employee advocacy.

    Responsibilities

    As a Safety Director you will be responsible for:

    • Collaborating with coworkers to create a culture of safety while building quality relationships.
    • Developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with MIOSHA standards and industry best practices.
    • Providing personnel with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.
    • Reviewing existing policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date and compliant with current regulations.
    • Evaluating projects and project sites before work commences, identifying safety- related risks and creating site-specific plans.
    • Overseeing the company’s daily operations and identifying opportunities for improvement of safety performance.
    • Performing safety audits and physically inspecting all work areas and jobsites to identify possible safety hazards and risks.
    • Conducting risk assessments and implementing corrective actions to minimize workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
    • Applying/submitting for safety awards and government grants.
    • Maintaining safety records, including OSHA 300 logs, safety training certifications, safety training logs, etc.
    • Preparing monthly or annual safety reports and presenting the information to the management team.
    • Collaborating with management to plan and implement a safety budget and allocate resources accordingly.
    • Investigating and reporting any accidents, incidents, or near misses that occur on site or involve company personnel or equipment.
    • Assist with onboarding new hires as it relates to safety and our processes.

    Requirements

    To be a successful safety director, you should have:

    • At least 5 years of experience as a safety director or manager in the construction industry.
    • Excellent knowledge of MIOSHA standards and federal, state, and local safety regulations.
    • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the construction industry.
    • Familiarity with writing and updating health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics using software tools such as Excel, Procore, and Tyfoom.
    • Ability to access heights via ladders, scaffolding, or aerial lift.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to train and empower coworkers.
    • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
