Safety Director jobs in Lowell, MA

Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Responsibilities:
    • Develop and maintain safety programs, processes, and systems to promote safety awareness and reduce accidents and risks.
    • Establish safety statistics, metrics, and reporting, including OSHA compliance filings and injury evaluations.
    • Oversee Workers Compensation issues and interface with medical providers and WC insurance companies to manage cases.
    • Develop and lead safety training initiatives and maintain SDS documentation.
    • Perform project inspections, identify risks and non-compliance areas, and develop action plans to correct deficiencies.
    • Consult with Operations regarding new construction, operating processes, and installations to ensure safety parameters are incorporated.
    • Establish a process for equipment and tool safety evaluations and operational training.
    • Manage safety accident investigations and serve as a liaison with clients and regulatory agencies.

    Requirements/Qualifications:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety-oriented position.
    • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Environmental, Health and Safety or a related field is preferred but not required.
    • Valid Driver’s License and OSHA 30-hour Training Certification.
    • BCSP Certification preferred but not required.
    • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing safety and environmental/hazardous waste management.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Must be able to pass drug test & background check, lift 50lbs, and access heights.
    • OSHA 500/502 Authorized Trainer certification is a plus.
