Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Rapid Transport seeks an experienced Safety and Recruiting Director to join its Safety Department.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Recruit drivers and ensure driver training of company processes, recruit drivers via phone, email, references, events, etc.
Audit permit books to ensure DOT compliance
Work with maintenance to ensure ready and available equipment
Manage driver new hire paperwork with recruiters and other terminals
Coordinate completion of accident/incident reports and disciplinary paperwork in a timely manner
Work with the insurance for claims and checking on claims that are owed to the company
Assist, train and develop safety and recruiting staff
Qualifications and Skills
MINIMUM OF FIVE YEARS OF VERIFIABLE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
Equipment maintenance experience
Excellent recruiting and follow-up skills
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and the internet
Bilingual English/Spanish desirable, salary commensurate with experience
