    Position Description. Baker Electric, Inc. of Des Moines Iowa is looking for a Safety Representative for field safety leadership duties. The position will be working with the Greater Des Moines team of safety personnel to deliver day-to-day safety guidance and real-time partnership with field employees on safe practices and safety awareness. The requirements include an Associates degree in safety or related (or 3 yrs' exp as construction safety coordinator), First Aid, CPR and AED certifications, and completed OSHA 30-hour construction safety class. Job is subject to site-specific labor requirements or ratios.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities

    • Comply with all federal, state, and local safety and health guidelines and requirements, as well as site-specific safety provisions
    • Maintain knowledge and participates in all site-specific safety training or safety awareness events
    • Monitor compliance of safety practices throughout the worksite
    • Intervene in unsafe activities or operations and take action to correct unsafe conditions, performance or actions by reporting issues to Safety Director of Safety Coordinator
    • Respond to all safety incidents, administering First Aid as needed, or coordinating emergency response plan
    • Cooperate with and assist Safety Director and Safety Coordinator in investigating and preparing accident reports as directed
    • Carry out safety corrective actions as assigned by Safety Director or Safety Coordinator
    • Perform routine onsite activities as required by Baker Electric and site partners in the Greater Des Moines, Iowa area (i.e., assignment of safety equipment, gather required medical documentation, etc.)
    • Assist with walk-through audits on safety practices and site facility inspections
    • Escalate any critical and/or emergent issues to Safety Director and company leaders as necessary
    • Other related duties as assigned

    Preferred Education and Experience (Knowledge)

    • Associates degree in safety, health or environment; ASP, CHST or CSP designation preferred; or 3 yrs' experience as designated construction safety coordinator
    • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR and AED
    • Completed OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent and maintain competency through 24 hours of continuing training every 4 years
    • Qualified to recognize safety hazards

    Physical Requirements (Ability)

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, see, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, to reach with hands and arms, to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to navigate around job site locations autonomously.
