Safety Representative outlines and implements training programs to educate and inform workforce on work safety, environmental safety, and accident prevention regulations and procedures. Develops and distributes educational materials including videos, guides, and posters. Being a Safety Representative tracks and documents accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future accidents. Performs inspections and audits of facilities, equipment and processes recommending corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance to established regulations. Additionally, Safety Representative has a broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Safety Representative works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. Basic Function
Conducts mid-level to complex health and safety assignments and, depending on assignment, environmental management assignments for the facility under general supervision.
May direct or lead the work of others from time-to-time.
Job Duties
May perform some or all of the following depending on assignment :
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
A minimum of three years of on the job experience with five years' experience working in a refinery or related oil and gas industry field are required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required or the equivalent years of experience in lieu of the degree (four years in addition to the experience requirement) are required.
PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL :
Depending on location, specialized training in Industrial Fire Fighting; High Angle Rescue; Hazmat; and EMT, Certifications in CSP, PE, CIH, Hazard Assessment, Air Monitoring, Workers Compensation, Radiation Safety and HAZWOPER are preferred.
Required Skills
Intermediate knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene, and ability to apply this knowledge. Understanding of Safety Practices basics and application of Safety Policies, and Procedures for field activities.
Specialized knowledge and ability to understand and interpret OSHA regulations as it applies to the Oil & Gas Industry. Advanced reading and writing skills and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel,Powerpoint and Outlook. Demonstrated ability to stand firm on doing the job safe if challenged, but act in a diplomatic manner.
Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication.
PREFERRED SKILLS :
Strong time management.
Supervisory / Managerial Responsibility
May lead and direct the work of others from time-to-time.
Work Conditions
Office based, field based and, with travel up to 30% of the time by land or air is required. Petroleum refinery, and out-of-door environments, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks and rotating equipment, fumes or airborne particles and loud noises and vibrations.
Required to work in all temperatures including outdoors and confined spaces. Subject to varying road and weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspection, making precise hand & finger movements, reaching and grasping, lifting and / or carrying 25lbs, pushing and / or pulling up to 15 lbs and climbing up to 50 ft, perceiving color differences, strenuous physical activity and, the ability to wear personal protective equipment (bears not permitted).
