Safety Specialist implements, manages and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Additionally, Safety Specialist may have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety related activities depending on the industry and location. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Safety Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. The Safety Specialist will coordinate activities relating to the administration of the safety department.
What You'll Do:- Deliver first aid treatment to employees and assist in determining if further treatment is needed.
- Establish a Healthy & Safety presence as a visible leader on the manufacturing plant floor.
- Lead and guide staff through workplace investigations for investigating injuries, near misses and property damage incidents. Ensure implementation of corrective and preventative action activities.
- Inspect the facilities, machinery, equipment, and personnel practices to identify potential safety, health concerns and hazards.
- Address safety issues and concerns, conduct investigations into employees’ inquiries and complaints.
- Maintain supplies and cleanliness of the first aid room.
- Inspect safety equipment ie: eye wash stations, spill kits, fire extinguishers etc.
- Assist environmental data entry for required tracking and track, enter fork truck inspections in database.
- Perform a variety of administrative duties, including record keeping and follow-up activities, in support of the safety area of the Human Resource department.
- Utilize delay time constructively by doing housekeeping or other area improvement activities.
- Participate in area continuous improvement efforts including Employee Involvement activities.
- Personal attendance record should remain in compliance with company guidelines.

- High school diploma plus associate degree, or equivalent with over six months experience preferred.
- Mental/Physical requirements are for diversified work of a technical/statistical nature.
Only general procedures or precedents are applicable. - Some access to controlled confidential information and guarding the information accordingly.
- Responsible for internal and external contacts involving corrections or adjustments requiring tact, judgement, and proper conduct.
- Requires great attention to detail and accuracy.
- Light physical exertion. Able to lift up to 20 pounds. Physical movement includes twisting and bending.
- Must be willing and able to wear all required PPE. (Safety goggles, hearing protections, steel-toe non-slip safety shoes, and gloves as needed when on the shop floor.)
