Safety Specialist implements, manages and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Additionally, Safety Specialist may have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety related activities depending on the industry and location. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Safety Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Environmental Health & Safety Field Specialist – Position and Responsibilities
    As an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Field Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring all appropriate company safety policies, procedures, and programs are adhered to in addition to compliance with all safety legal requirements. The EHS Field Specialist assists the EHS Director with implementing, monitoring, and reviewing the protective and preventative measures the Company adopts and follows, and prioritizes the minimization of operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents, and injuries. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Conduct pre-job safety survey and attend job planning meetings to identify safety needs/concerns.
    • Monitor project field standards, processes, communication, and training to help ensure a safe workplace limiting risk to employee health and welfare.
    • Conduct and coordinate field safety inspections in client facilities relating to safety laws and regulations, recognizing and monitoring hazardous work conditions, and ensuring the use of safety equipment as required.
    • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, construction processes, and practices to ensure compliance with Company safety standards and government regulations.
    • Investigate field accidents to identify root causes, complete incident report, and collaborate with EHS Director and EHS Champions on future accident prevention plans.
    • Collaborate with the EHS Director on safety records of incidents/accidents and government required reporting.
    • Work with Company locations to document and retain emergency response plans and procedures.
    • Assist EHS Champions with health and safety new hire orientations, required safety trainings and education, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
    • Ensure job related PPE is available.
    • Understand current policies, government regulations, and construction processes to propose safety improvements to procedures and policies to eliminate and limit company liability and employee safety risks.
    • Collaborate with the EHS Director to review safety programs for program enhancement.
    • Assist with preparing project specific environmental, health, and safety procedures.
    • Assist the EHS Director with completing the OSHA 300 log as required for company specific locations.
    Education, Experience and Skills
    The successful candidate will possess the following:
    • Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in Safety or related field.
    • OSHA 500-hour Certified Safety Professional desirable but not required.
    • Safety certification desirable.
    • 2-5 years of experience in safety roles within industrial or construction environments.
    • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
    • Strong proactive problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrates broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with safety issues.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail abilities.
    • Ability to multitask and organize for project efficiency.
    • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
    Physical Requirements
    The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this position, the successful candidate will:
    • Frequently walk up to and more than 10,000 steps per day, reach with hands and arms, climb several flights of stairs per day, ladder ascending and descending, balance, stoop or kneel, bend/twist, and use repeating motions that may include the wrists/hands/fingers.
    • Must have the ability to hear and speak at all times.
    • Subject to confined space entries and non-confined space work requiring bending, reaching, climbing with inspection tools, harnesses, and lanyards.
    • Frequent use of hand tools including but not limited to hammers, wire brushes, tape measures, etc.
    • Infrequent ability to move up to 50 pounds and frequent ability to move up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently use up-close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Should not expect adverse environmental conditions within company offices.
    • May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as climbing ladders and/or stairs, extreme heat and/or cold, and/or poor air quality) if or when on-site at a client facility.  Safety protections to be provided by the client and/or company and are required to be used and followed.
    • May require occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
    • This position requires the candidate/employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence.
