Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Additionally, Safety Specialist may have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety related activities depending on the industry and location. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Safety Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     POSITION SUMMARY

    The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation and facilitation of safety and health regulatory programs at Palisades Nuclear Station to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This includes clearly identifying the safety requirements and expectations for all employees to instill a heightened sense of safety, interpreting state and federal agency regulatory requirements as they relate to developing corresponding policies.  This position will also analyze human performance data from the corrective action program, coaching and observation programs and coordinate human performance actions.  The incumbent provides functional guidance and direction to technical employees so that they may gain, enhance, and maintain the skills and knowledge required to effectively perform their duties. Incumbent may be assigned and Emergency Response Organization (ERO) position.


    JOB DUTIES/ REQUIREMENTS
    • Support Industrial Safety training needs, contract support, budget preparation, and
    oversight for departmental corrective action, training, and work activities.
    • Contribute to an environment of continuous improvement in Industrial Safety with a heavy emphasis on worker behavior.
    • Gather and trend industrial safety data, make recommendations and develop corrective actions to improve industrial safety performance.
    • Gather, formulate, and distribute relevant and required safety KPIs at the request of the leadership team.
    • Lead by example while professionally implementing OSHA/ MiOSHA and Holtec safety policies.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum education required of the position: 
    • B.S. Degree in Industrial Safety, or a related technical degree or equivalent work experience.

    Minimum experience required of the position:
    • 7 years in an Industrial Safety position implementing industrial safety improvements and managing industrial safety programs.

    Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position:
    • Knowledge of OSHA/ MiOSHA General Industry and Construction regulations and how they apply to a power generation facility.
    • Industrial Hygiene practices that anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for environmental and physical hazards that can affect the health and well-being of workers, including asbestos, lead, chromium, nuisance dust, mold, noise, light, temperatures, etc.
    • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene sampling equipment and OSHA and NiOSH sampling protocols.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft suite of office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.

    Certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position:
    • Board of Certified Safety Professionals- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification with track to Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification within 2 years.
    • Recommended: Any, or combination of, OSHA Outreach 30 Hour, OSHA 510 Construction, OSHA 511 General Industry.
    • Recommended: Certification in Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) for the purpose of asbestos identification.
    • Recommended: Certification in Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid.
