Job Summary
The Safety Program Specialist will provide support to the Telematics program, NiSource business stakeholders, and other safety initiatives and programs. The Safety Program Specialist will work to develop, train, support, execute and sustain the telematics program and initiatives by developing material, analyzing data, providing analysis of internal and external performance, and engaging with and coaching key stakeholders on safe driving practices and behaviors.
The Safety Program Specialist’s responsibilities include but are not limited to developing material to support and advance the telematics program, establishing and maintaining local operations relationships to support the telematics program, performance data analysis and reporting, Fleet, IC and IT relationship liaison, issue resolution, vendor relationship liaison, as well as other safety initiatives duties as assigned.
The Safety Program Specialist position will support further development of the NiSource Telematics Program, technology, and safe driving culture through the development and execution of safety telematics initiatives, communications, process improvements, telematics data evaluation and management systems.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Provide counsel in the creation and sustainability of compliance-driven programs
Project manage NiSource-wide safety initiatives
Maintain safety programs reports, and prepare status updates for key stakeholders
Deliver training as needed
Collaborate with internal/external customers, suppliers and partners to ensure we are meeting commitments
Provide direction as needed for existing safety programs throughout the NiSource footprint
Plan and facilitate project meetings
Record and track project requirements according to internal and external customer needs
Act as a mentor to other safety professionals
Suggest and implement recommendations for continuous improvement
Revise corporate processes as appropriate
Manage projects off differing complexity and impact will differ
Coordinate communication with all areas of the enterprise to assist in the effective rollout of initiatives and programs that result in advancing the safety culture
Travel as needed
The successful candidate’s experience will dictate the level at which they are hired into NiSource.
Seasoned professional with in-depth knowledge in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines
May lead projects and manage processes

Required Qualifications for Position
Bachelor's degree from accredited institution or equivalent work experience
Experience in the utility industry
Analytical, planning, organization, and verbal/written communication skills
Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills
Experience with group facilitation and information gathering
Ability to drive and monitor continuous improvement and associated change management
Ability to drive execution using a formal methodology
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to quickly assess and make sound decisions
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Ability to gather and analyze data to make informed decisions
Ability to accurately obtain, interpret, and transcribe a variety of communications and instructions
Ability to recognize and evaluate risks, hazards, losses and prevent conflicts between activities
Ability to learn software programs
Proficiency in the Microsoft suite, in particular Excel and Power Point.
Ability to collaborate in a remote working environment
Preferred Qualifications for Position
Occupational Safety certification (CSP, ASP, etc.) or safety degree
Project Management certification (PMP)
Demonstrated applications of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action planning
Experience in safety programs and reporting
Demonstrated understanding of contractor management
Demonstrated applications of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action planning
