The Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist leads the safety, health and environmental policies for the purpose of making the facilities a safe and productive place to work. Maintains compliance with all local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
This position will assist in the establishment of a safety minded culture of continuous awareness, compliance and visibility throughout the company. This includes: Conducting walking tours to check all environmental health and safety conditions and enforce company policies and procedures. Implementing practices that prevent accidents and ensure compliance with OSHA standards. Ensuring safety and health hazards are corrected, eliminated or guarded. The EHS Specialist works directly with managers, supervisors, leads and employees across all production departments.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for driving compliance at the manufacturing site(s).
- Provide various communications to a broad group of employees, such as machine operators, engineering, facilities and executives.
- Coordinate the training of all personnel in the required safety, health and environmental policies. Ensure training records meet retention requirements. Conduct new employee safety orientation training.
- Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are up-to-date and employees have the ability to access those needed for their work area.
- Develops/maintains plant emergency response plans and ensures plan effectiveness.
- Investigates EHS-related incidents/accidents to determine root causes (5 why) and prepares and implements corrective action plans. Ensure that all accident reports are recorded in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.
- Evaluates proposed projects and proposed new chemicals and ensures plans are in-place and implemented to address EHS compliance issues.
- Tracks environmental-related data (GHG, waste) and identifies projects to improve metrics.
- Coordinates and assists with multiple initiatives, participating on teams in order to drive best safety practices across the organization.
- Develops/maintains all required written safety plans, e.g., Emergency Response, PPE, Machine Guarding, LOTO, Powered Industrial Truck, HAZCOM, etc.
- Ensures all required plant safety inspections are performed and documented, e.g., fire extinguishers, fire risers, emergency response equipment, safety showers, eye wash stations, emergency lights, ladders, housekeeping and that corrective actions are completed for identified deficiencies.
- Ensure that the workplace is fully in compliance with all applicable OSHA standards, rules and regulations in order to maintain safety.
- Respond to OSHA citations, notices and communication.
- Ensure OSHA citations, and abatement verification documents, are posted at or near the work area where accidents happen. Ensure any violations cited by OSHA as a result of an OSHA inspection are corrected by the deadline set in the OSHA citation, and submit the required abatement verification documentation.

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school
- Minimum 3 years of environmental, health or safety experience in a manufacturing environment
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited school
- 4 years of experience in an EHS Management role
- Certified Safety Manager Certification
- In-depth knowledge about Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Powered Industrial Trucks, HAZCOM and Electrical Safety
Position Criteria:
