Safety Specialist implements, manages and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Additionally, Safety Specialist may have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety related activities depending on the industry and location. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Safety Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. The hospital’s heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average, and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.

    Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.     Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Director of Perinatal Services the Perinatal Safety Specialist is responsible for the implementation promotion support and oversight of perinatal patient safety and quality of care initiatives and programs. This specialized nursing role combines clinical expertise with a focus on patient safety to provide high-quality care and support to pregnant women and their families adhering to departmental institutional regional and Federal clinical and ethical standards. The perinatal safety nurse will participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance perinatal care processes and outcomes contributing to a culture of safety within the healthcare facility. The primary responsibility of the perinatal patientsafety nurse is to promote safe care for mothers and babies by keeping patient safety as a focus of all unit operations and clinical practices.


    Qualifications

    ● Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing required

    ● Master’s degree or higher preferred

    ● A minimum of 5 years as a clinician in Women’s Services

    ● A minimum of 2 years of project experience in Women and Infants Perinatal Safety

    ● Experience with quality improvement/process improvement techniques project/program management experiencerequired

    ● Current RN License in applicable State

    ● Certification in one of the following: CCRN-NEO C-EFM RN-BC MCN RN-BC-PERI RNC [OBGYNNEONATAL] RNC-LRN RNC-MNN RNC-NIC RNC-OB C-EFM

    ● BLS - American Heart Association 

    ● NRP within 90 days
