Summary:
To provide a safe environment for patients at high risk for falls or who require observation and supervision to prevent harm.
Responsibilities :
• Appropriately uses diversional activities such as playing cards, reading, conversation skills, interpersonal skills and craft like projects to ensure patient safety. • Stays with the patient during their shift and only leaves the patient when the nursing staff has been notified and are able to assume care. • Interacts in an appropriate manner with understanding, patience and tact in dealing with patients, their families and other personnel. • Maintains patient areas that are safe and tidy. Places items for patient use in reach of patient. (telephone, call light, personal items) • Participates in maintaining a safe, calm environment for the patient by providing observation and reporting to the nursing staff. • Provides diversional care and reorientation to patients through companionship which incorporates presenting yourself in a neutral and calm manner without argument, along with an ability to remain flexible with confused patients. • Contributes to patient safety by reducing anxiety, falls, distress and fear often associated with a hospital admission through the provision of physical and emotional support. • Maintains eye contact and direct sight of the patient at all times. • Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain boundaries. • Demonstrates behaviors that promote Patient Safety there by reducing the cost of hospitalization due to patient injury.
