Being a Safety Technician may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.   • Description

    • Under general supervision, inspects work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.
    • Documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures. 
    • Assists in maintaining safety equipment supply and availability. 
    • Samples and analyzes for possible exposure to hazards such as chemicals, smoke, fumes, gases, vapors, noise and lighting. 
    • Assists in applying safety  policies  and  procedures and in employee safety training. 
    • Maintains assigned files and records including material safety data sheets and other paperwork ensuring compliance. 
    • May assist with hazardous material programs, assuring all hazardous materials are received, handled, shipped, stored, labeled and disposed of in accordance with company and government regulations. 
    • May interface with regulatory agencies.


    Requirements

    • Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent combination  of education and experience. 
    • A two year degree or equivalent is preferred. 
    • Requires at least 2 years related experience.
    • Requires developing understanding and ability to train others in company, state and federal safety policies and regulations. 
    • Able to train others in correct use of safety equipment. 
    • Must have practical knowledge of biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a closely related field. 
    • Must have developing skills in the operation of a variety of lab equipment, generators, pumps, gauges, and other common tools. 
    • Must have the ability to perform control calculations . 
    • Must be able to produce quality, accurate work. 
    • Must be able to detect and correct errors. 
    • Requires effective written and verbal communication.
