 JOB OVERVIEW:

• The role of the Safety Technician is to provide support to the Environmental, Health and Safety Programs at Heartland Fabrication, LLC.  The position will report to the current EHS Manager. This position involves working closely with employees, supervisors, and management to identify, evaluate, and eliminate safety hazards. The Safety Technician will aid in creating and implementing safety programs, providing safety training, and conducting safety inspections and audits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / SKILLS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform and document observations, inspections, and appropriate corrective actions for the Environmental, Health and Safety Department.
• Employee coaching on safety related issues
• Assist with safety equipment inspection which includes but is not limited to the following:
  1. Fire Protection Equipment
  2. Eyewash Stations
  3. Personal Protective Equipment
• Maintain complete and adequate records required
  • Assist with respirator fit testing
  • Assist with incident reporting and investigation
• Promote safety and compliance among employees and contractors
• Conduct audits
• Enforce the safety policies and discipline matrix
• Assist Management on various projects
• Assist supervisors with safety concerns and make recommendations for corrective actions
• Keep SDS information current

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Degree in Safety or related field preferred
• Previous internship or experience in safety/emergency response preferred
• Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

WORK CONDITIONS:

• The work environment varies from indoor office setting to heavy industrial worksite.
• Potential exposure to outdoor elements including extreme weather conditions such as heat and cold
• Potential exposure to air particles such as dust and chemicals
• Potential exposure to loud, penetrating noises in some work areas
• Minimum personal protective equipment including safety toe footwear with metatarsal protection, hard hat, safety glasses, and hearing protection is required when inside the main manufacturing facility and/or active outdoor work areas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to sit, stand and walk on a regular basis.
