The School of Architecture at Notre Dame educates leaders in the classical architectural tradition and addresses critical issues facing the built environment through research, professional activity, and public service. The school aspires to be a leading voice in the academic, professional, and lay discussions about how people should live together (urbanism) and build (architecture), one that molds students to construct a future at once more humane, functional, and beautiful. The School seeks an Academic Affairs & Administration Program Director to organize and oversee the execution of key aspects of the School's strategic endeavors, partner with faculty and administrators to facilitate the annual reappointment, promotion, and tenure procedures, and liaise with stakeholders both within and beyond the University.
The Program Director has primary responsibility for advising and supporting the Dean in all aspects of the School's administrative and academic strategy. Execution of these responsibilities involves a variety of roles, including managing special projects, recommending strategic activities, and serving as a liaison to various academic and administrative units. This position requires a high level of independent judgment, discretion and initiative; the ability to communicate clearly on behalf of the Dean in writing and in the creation of presentations; high degree of project/organizational management and analytical skills; and the ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality.
Strategy and Execution
- Cultivate strong relationships as the initial point of contact for inquiries from university officials, consultants, faculty, staff and external entities;
- The successful candidate will exhibit the ability to anticipate and recognize problems and/or issues, think through appropriate action based on priorities, commitments and interest, and consult with the Dean regarding next steps and implementation.
Project Management and Oversight
- Consistently provides oversight and input on Dean's allocation of time and effort, ensuring he maximizes effectiveness and efficiency.
- Assume project management responsibility for special projects and initiatives highly important to the School and with the utmost degree of confidentiality.
- Support the execution and assessment of the School's strategic plan, recommend strategic activities and consult on issues such as the strategic advancement of the School's goals.
- Conduct relevant research on a variety of topics and policies potentially impacting the School.
High level planning and preparation for complex meetings
- Coordinate and prioritize meeting agendas for School Administrators, Dean's Strategic Advisory Committee (DSAC) and School faculty meetings, including Committee on Reappointments, Promotion and Tenure (CRPT) and the CRPT Executive Committee (CRPT EC).
Faculty Recruitment, Onboarding, Reappointment and Promotion
- Coordinate faculty searches for the School
- Develop and deliver School faculty onboarding training
- Liaison with the Provost Office and the School's CRPT Executive Committee to implement Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure policies and procedures
Faculty course assignments and workload

Analyze faculty workloads and expertise to make initial recommendation to Dean for faculty course assignments and where potential hiring needs to occur

Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree or Bachelors degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelors
- Experience: 5 to 6 years
- Significant knowledge of, and experience working in, a highly energized and active work environment, preferably in higher education.
- Demonstrated ability to simultaneously handle and successfully manage multiple tasks and initiatives across organizational units.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Proven ability to research issues and problems, identify possible remedies, and facilitate the implementation of preferred solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication and technical skills required to interact with various internal and external constituencies.
- Trustworthiness and integrity in managing important relationships and highly confidential information.
- Proven ability to successfully work on teams in addressing a variety of issues
- 3-5 years of experience working in a fast-paced professional environment with responsibility for managing and contributing to teams developing major projects or initiatives; experience as a senior leader or advising a senior leader of an organization on issues of policy and confidential matters; extensive knowledge of and appreciation for the human development as well as academic structure and functions of a university.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD preferred.
