Position Purpose RLI is seeking an energetic and collaborative leader and individual contributor for our growing Data Analysis team. As Manager of Data Analysis, you will be actively leading and executing the design, development, and testing of enterprise analytics and reporting. You will develop a strong understanding of RLI’s business and the strategic direction for Data & Analytics to align local work efforts with team goals through effective coordination of available resources. You will seek opportunities for improvement related to implementations and processes. In addition to guiding your team, you will be responsible and accountable for your own implementation tasks related to delivery of reporting and analytics assets to our business. You will report to the Director of Technology within our Data & Analytics practice and actively contribute to the direction and planning against our Data & Analytics vision. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Creates a highly collaborative working environment that fosters team alignment, efficiency and accountability. Provides training opportunities and ongoing guidance to the team to help in professional development relating to behaviors, standards, technologies and agile processes. Drives timely delivery of solutions that meet high quality standards and user expectations. Implements reports/dashboards, tailored to user archetypes, using data visualization software, including but not limited to, SAP Business Objects, Power BI, and SQL Server Reporting Services. Works with business analysts, data engineers, product owners and internal customers to seek understanding, challenge requirements, develop reporting deliverables, and ensure report accuracy and underlying data quality. Develops comprehensive understanding of enterprise data architecture and associated data flows for legacy and new solutions. Coalesces disparate data to answer business questions and develop compelling information visualizations. Demonstrates expertise and thought leadership in the application of analytical techniques and tools to extract and present insights to users through reports and/or interactive dashboards. Demonstrate expert-level insurance domain knowledge, intellectual curiosity and remain current on analytical-related methods and technologies. Evaluates and recommends additions and updates to technology stack in collaboration with data architects, data engineers and business analysts to optimize core analytics infrastructure and ability to deliver against the Data & Analytics vision and roadmap. Contributes to and executes implementation plans, integrating activities with the Data & Analytics strategy and direction. Initiates action to assure delivery of various aspects of projects, process improvement or work efforts. Education & Experience Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field 8 years of data engineering experience 3 years of related experience leading/managing technical teams in an insurance business setting Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to direct and oversee the work of others. Experience developing technical talent through coaching and mentoring. Expert understanding of Business Intelligence, including data modeling and warehousing on-premises and cloud, and Agile concepts and practices. Expert knowledge in multiple analytical tools and programming languages, such as Power BI, Excel, SQL, and Python. Demonstrated independence and leadership in building analytical solutions for a business domain, like insurance and finance. Effectively communicates, verbally and written, findings and recommendations within a hybrid operating environment. Must be highly adaptable, resolve ambiguity, and demonstrate intellectual curiosity.
