    SUMMARY

    The Sales and Marketing Engineer II - Trane Creative Solutions is responsible for ensuring customer sales and satisfaction by responding to questions, concerns, and needs.  Identifies customer needs early in the process.   Learns customer needs early in the request process and can please the customer quickly. Responsible for developing long-term customer relationships and maximizing account penetration and customer retention with CSO account managers. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other functions may be assigned.

    • Initiates and builds positive relationships with CSO Account Managers that will generate future sales and repeat business.  Interacting with and traveling to sales offices to frequently to educate them on product’s benefits and special uses.
    • Promptly answers and responds to customer calls by determining needs, answering questions, or transferring to appropriate internal personnel.
    • Write and develop marketing literature
    • Price, Quote, Negotiates, and Sells modified Trane equipment to Trane offices
    • Converts leads into opportunities by identifying the required project needs
    • Determines project needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet all of the customer’s HVAC system design and installation requirements. 
    • Develops, evaluates, and discusses possible solutions with customer.
    • Develops preliminary project fulfillment schedule.
    • Responsible for project take-off, selection, pricing, and integration of equipment, controls, and services.
    • Responsible for the preparation and review of the proposal. 
    • Validates the preliminary proposal with customer.
    • Responsible for supporting direct sales process, meeting / exceeding sales targets, and aligning sales with organization’s short / long term sales strategy.
    • Reviews and compares contract terms and conditions with Trane contract standards.
    • Prepares transition documents and communicates project readiness for assignment to operations team
    • Resolves major deviations from scope with team after Project Scope Validation 
    • Provides knowledge and consultation in the form of developing HVAC system related solutions for the customer’s problems, including financial and performance-based considerations
    • Coordinates with CSO account managers in writing project specifications
    • Responds to customer needs by identifying systems, products, generating quotes and closing orders 
    • Assists customers in answering technical questions on HVAC systems, Trane products, and system application alternative, BAS, installation, operation, maintenance, and problem resolution
    • Performs complex design and analysis activities involving refrigerant, electronic controls, airside, and waterside systems in the HVAC industry
    • Effectively applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices to produce high quality products
    • Working knowledge of refrigerant piping, electrical, and hydronic piping schematics
    • Follows standards; helps improve literature and product quality standards
    • Uses a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD, Trane selection and pricing programs, and specialty vendor programs to create submittals, construction drawings, wiring diagrams, B.O.M.s, and IOM manuals.
    • Support the Fulfillment function by assisting with cost estimates
    • Coordinates with Estimators in the interpretation of specifications and preparation of proposals.
    • Attends, contributes to, and/or leads meetings with team members, salesmen, customers, and management as needed
    • Flexibility to work outside normal business work hours/weekends when needed
    • Flexibility to work in other company departments when needed
    • Flexibility to travel with occasional overnight stays
    • Flexibility to work overtime when needed

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least three years experience in estimating, engineering, selling, or construction management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Familiarity with the operation of HVAC systems and temperature controls. 

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to communicate (verbal, written) effectively with others.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    This position has been designated as Remote within Region, candidate must be located in the Grand Rapids, MI area.

    Base Pay Range:  $82,550-$109,950 / yr.

    Total compensation for this role will include a bonus/incentive plan.
