POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a School Nurse.
- This position will be a 1.0 FTE.
- Successful applicant needs to be willing to teach a CNA course if necessary.
POSITION SUMMARY
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and life-long achievement and health of students. To that end, the School Nurse facilitates positive student responses to normal development, promotes health and safety including a healthy environment, intervenes with actual and potential health problems, provides case management services, and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- BSN/BS in a health-related field.
- Unencumbered and current Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage delivery of school health services, including health screenings, communicable disease control, health education, and environmental monitoring
- Attain and integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical competency, including appropriate technology and service delivery.
- Collaborate with the student, family, school staff and other pertinent professional and community persons, including supervisor, in the delivery of school health services in an effort to maximize academic potential.
- Act as the liaison to facilitate resource access and utilization by the school, student and family to meet the student’s safety, health, and education needs.
- Promote healthy school environment by providing Emergency Response Team (ERT) training, which includes CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogen, and administration of injectable emergency medications.
- Monitor immunizations for compliance to state laws and school policies. Adhere to the jurisdiction of both the Baker County Health Department and Baker School District to monitor and report communicable diseases as required by law.
- Oversee non-nursing staff in managing medical records, health room visits and medication management.
- Maintain accurate, appropriate and confidential medical records.
- Serve on advisory committees/consultation for health accommodations necessary to support student individual education care plans (i.e. 504 and IEP).
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job.
- Proficiently navigate internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to delivery of school health services.
- Demonstrate knowledge of effective communication techniques with students, parents, patrons, and other professionals.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and be an effective role model for students.
- Maintain regular attendance and promptness in reporting for duty, as well as timeliness in submitting required reports and other professional paperwork.
- Reflect on current performance, identify professional goals and participate in staff development activities which contribute to individual and system wide improvement.
- Comply with District and State standards of professional conduct.
- Corresponds with district staff and stakeholders via email.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
SALARY INFORMATION
- The annual certified salary scale for the 2023-2024 school year is $60,000 - $86,521, for 1.0 FTE, depending on years of experience and level of education. Baker School District allows all teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary schedule. Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 175 days.

- This position will begin immediately. Salary will be prorated according to start date.
