    SUMMARY

    The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program. The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in the overall administration of the Pre-K–8 program, and may plan, direct, or coordinate the academic, administrative, disciplinary, or auxiliary activities of the private Catholic school. In addition to these responsibilities, the Assistant Principal may have direct oversight of the school’s Early Childhood program.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    Catholic Identity

    · Lives and promotes the Gospel message;

    · Fosters students’ understanding of God’s role in their lives and Christ’s relationship to each student;

    · Promotes and encourages cooperation and growth between the school, parish, religious education program, and the overall organization;

    · Keeps faculty, parents and students aware of their roles as Christian models.


    Educational Leadership

    · Assists the Principal in planning, managing, and supervising school operations and instructional program(s);

    · Supports teachers in classroom management, discipline, safety, and curriculum;

    · Communicates proactively with faculty, staff, students, and parents;

    · Attends regular staff meetings, student/parent meetings, and other meetings as directed by the Principal;

    · Arranges for and oversees substitute teachers as needed;

    · Assists in the implementation of disciplinary policies and procedures related to student behavior and achievement; provides for student and parent due process in accordance with federal, state, and school system rules and regulations; ensures confidentiality is maintained for all student records;

    · Assists the Principal in planning school-wide professional development;

    · Assists in creating agendas for professional development days and faculty/staff meetings;

    · Manages all Master InService Point paperwork;

    · Registers faculty for professional development opportunities and catechist courses;

    · Coordinates school support services and resources. Assists Academic Support/Resource Teachers with student services;

    · Prepares and presents reports, letters, memos, and other necessary correspondence to students, staff, and parents regarding school system policies and procedures;

    · Evaluates and provides direction to a variety of faculty, staff, and student programs and services; participates in informal classroom visits and observations; provides recommendations, suggestions for improvement and support as appropriate;

    · Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, transition of periods and other activities, as assigned; disciplines students according to established guidelines.


    Administrative and Operational Oversight

    • Assists the Principal with day-to-day school operations and assume responsibility in his/her absence;
    • Orders school supplies and textbooks;
    • Organizes activities/events for 8th grade graduation;
    • Maintains and oversees all recordkeeping and inventory of necessary supplies including textbooks, equipment and materials;
    • Maintains all student disciplinary records, including infraction forms, bullying reports, and consequences given per incident;
    • Assists the Principal in the development of the master schedule and course offerings and adjusts the schedule as needed to meet school, student, and staff needs;
    • Assists the Principal with recruiting, supervision, supporting and development of faculty/staff;
    • Assists the Principal with monitoring overall employment processes  and issues including, but not limited to, credentialing and background checks.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    · Hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited university or college that is recognized acceptable for Florida certification;

    · Must hold or obtain a Florida Professional Certificate in Educational Leadership within three years of hire; 

    · Must work towards a Master’s level Diocesan Catechist Certification within five years of hire.


    ORGANIZATIONAL/COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

    Position often involves coordinating, training, supervising, or managing the activities of others to accomplish goals. Very advanced communication and organizational skills are required. Attention to detail and working well with others, particularly with young children (Pre-K – 8th grade), is also required. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and parish personnel via face-to-face discussions, telephone communications, and electronic mail.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Position requires the abilities of oral and written comprehension and expression, deductive and inductive reasoning, clarity of speech, and near and far vision. The Assistant Principal is expected to supervise students and observe teachers through regular site visits to classrooms and other areas of the school plant. In addition, the Assistant Principal may be required to supervise and evaluate staff. Job incumbent must be able to, with or without reasonable accommodation, sit for long periods of time without a break, walk, stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, and move the fingers, wrists, arms, elbows, and lift up to 40 pounds. 


    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The job primarily requires working indoors in environmentally-controlled conditions, in crowded and at times noisy environments. The Assistant Principal generally works within this environment at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, every week, 12 months a year. Deviations from this schedule may occur due to contractual agreements set forth each employment contract year, based on the individual needs of the school/principal.
