    SUMMARY:
    As the instructional leader, establishes a clear and strong focus on the quality work of students by articulating a shared vision for student learning, clearly defining grade-level or discipline-based and school-wide goals for student learning, and continuously monitoring student achievement. Takes into account the instructional practices and organizational conditions of the school required to support student achievement.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Protects teachers from issues and influences that would detract from their teaching time or focus.
    • Adapts his or her leadership behavior to the needs of the current situation and is comfortable with dissent.
    • Establishes clear goals and keeps those goals in the forefront of the school’s attention.
    • Involves teachers in the design and implementation of important decisions and policies.
    • Ensures faculty and staff are aware of the most current theories and practices and makes the discussion of these a regular aspect of the school’s culture.
    • Is directly involved in the design and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
    • Is knowledgeable about current curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
    • Monitors the effectiveness of school practices and their impact on student learning.
    • Inspires and leads new and challenging innovations.
    • Establishes a set of standard operating procedures and routines.
    • Is an advocate and spokesperson for the school to all stakeholders.
    • Is aware of the details and undercurrents in the running of the school and uses this information to address current and potential problems.
    • Has quality contact and interactions with teachers and students.
    • Serves as a member of the administrative leadership team of the district.
    • Responsible for implementation of the district’s goals for student achievement and instruction within their school.
    • Responsible for developing operational plans for reaching student achievement and instructional goals that are aligned with the district’s mission, vision, and goals.
    • Responsible for the successful implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
    • Responsible for implementing professional development for administrators, teachers, and staff that is relevant and meaningful.
    • Ensures that assessment is systematic and regular.
    • Evaluates the performance and effectiveness of administrative, teaching, and classified staff.
    • Participates in district-wide activities, in-services, and committees, as appropriate.
    • Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board, state and federal level at the building level.
    • Fosters community relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies.
    • Ensures support services and access to incorporate technology strategies in the learning process.
    • Works with the district office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school.

    • Oversees the effective implementation of professional learning communities within the building.
    • Responsible for budget management and oversight.
    • Recognizes and celebrates accomplishments and acknowledges failures.
    • Is willing to challenge and actively challenges the status quo.
    • Recognizes and rewards individual accomplishments.
    • Establishes strong lines of communication with and among teachers and students.
    • Performs additional responsibilities set forth by supervising administration.
    • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications.
    • Performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Participates in the supervision and evaluation process of building certified and classified staff, including vice principals.


    EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Valid Idaho administrative license required
    • Master’s Degree in Educational or Administration required
    • Four to five years of successful classroom experience required
    • Successful administrative experience required


    COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyze and interpret education periodicals, assessment reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public.


    PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:
    Consistently demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.


    PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS:
    Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference. Ability to conduct basic math functions, as well as manipulate formulas in spreadsheets.


    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with severe abstract and concrete variables.
