    Primary Role and Purpose:

     

    The Assistant Principal is an educational leader responsible for assisting the Principal in planning, directing, and supervising a total school program with emphasis on english, math, science, and technology.  The Assistant Principal’s primary focus is working with staff to establish a culture of high expectations, founded on the core values of the school. The Assistant Principal is also responsible for fostering an environment that creates ownership and collaboration among teachers, students, parents, and community in the academic success and social/emotional development of the students.  The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting administration in developing a research-based framework for teaching and learning that is continuously refined to improve learning and behavior.  The Assistant Principal is a model of professional behavior, living by the core values of the school.  

     


    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

     

    1. Create and sustain a culture of high expectations for student behavior.
    • Work with administration and teachers to establish, evaluate, and refine a framework for 5th-12th grade that is research-based and:
    • instills a culture of high aspirations and achievement; and
    • fosters each student’s social-emotional development and behavior.
    • Set clear expectations for the behavior of staff and students and hold everyone accountable.
    • Work with administration and staff to plan student/parent orientations introducing families to the culture and expectations that exist at Quest.
    • Provide professional development to implement practices that build culture and promote the social/emotional development of students.
    • Resolve discipline issues in a fair and just manner, working with staff to determine appropriate consequences and interventions that increase positive behavior and minimize inappropriate behavior.

     

    1. Create and implement systems to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment

          for staff and students.

    • Adopt procedures and recommend policies that promote a safe, orderly, and productive environment for students and staff.
    • Organize and conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
    • Manage and continuously improve the school-wide plan for classroom management and discipline, with attention to creating a smooth transition from middle school to high school.

     

    • Work with staff to set clear expectations for behavior and maintain an orderly environment in hallways, cafeteria, after-school clubs, sporting events, study hall, detention, on-campus suspension, field trips, and other activities.
    • Assist the Principal in handling emergency and crisis situations.
    • Work with community agencies, governmental bodies, and local police on problems relating to students.
    • Maintain accurate discipline and recognition records for each student.
    • Monitor the outcomes of the school improvement plan and school-wide student achievement data to improve student achievement and behavior.
    • Work with bus drivers to maintain expectations for student behavior on the bus.
    • Assist the Principal in managing personnel, time, material, and learning resources to achieve the school improvement plan targets.

     

    1. Ensure that all students are on the path to college and career readiness and hold staff

         accountable for attainment of college readiness.

    • Assist the Principal in implementing the vision for the school with w definition of desired results and goals that align with the overall school vision that lead to student improvement for all learners.
    • Ensure that the identity, vision, and mission drive school decisions.
    • Conduct crucial conversations about students in a timely manner with appropriate staff, parents, and the student for the purpose of enhancing student achievement, social/emotional development, and appropriate behavior.
    • Follow up to ensure that plans developed for a student are implemented and achieve desired results.

     

    1. Assist the Principal in developing a research-based framework for effective teaching and

         learning that is refined continuously to improve instruction.

    • Assist in developing a consistent framework for effective teaching and learning based on the Common Core State Standards, research-based instructional practices, and high expectations for students.
    • Assist in creating a continuous improvement cycle that uses multiple forms of data and student work samples to support school-wide improvement goals, address areas of improvement, and celebrate success.
    • Assist in identifying student interventions that differentiate instruction based on student needs.
    • Assist in selecting and retaining effective teachers to deliver instruction that maximizes student learning, positive behaviors, and students’ social/emotional development.
    • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of instruction of individual teachers by conducting frequent formal and informal observations.
    • Provide timely feedback on instruction and behavior management as part of the teacher appraisal system.
    • Ensure the training, support and accountability for high-performing instructional teacher teams to support learning and development to advance student learning and social/emotional development.
    • Collaborate to develop systems and structures for professional development and sharing of effective practices, including providing and protecting time allotted for professional development.

     

    1. Build and maintain collaborative relationships, whereby staff and families regularly interact to

         share ownership in the success of the school and students.

    • Create, develop, and sustain relationships that result in active parent and student engagement in the learning process.
    • Utilize meaningful feedback from students, staff, families, and community in the evaluation of the culture and programs.
    • Proactively engage families in supporting student achievement and the learning goals of Quest.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of the change process and use leadership and facilitation skills to manage change effectively.

     

    1. Create a positive context for learning by ensuring equity, fulfilling professional responsibilities with honesty and integrity, and serving as a model for the professional behavior of others.

    • Demonstrate personal and professional standards and conduct that enhance the image of the school and educational profession.
    • Protect the rights and confidentiality of staff and students.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from an accredited college or university.
    • Five years of teaching experience.
    • Knowledge of research-based best practices as it relates to social/emotional development and behavior of all students.
    • Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills, as well as the ability to motivate people.
    • Demonstrate the ability effectively to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
    • Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
    • Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance given.
    • Pass state required TB test.
