The Okeechobee County School Board has begun the search for their next Superintendent of Schools. While serving successfully as superintendent for the last 13 years, the outgoing superintendent’s retirement culminates a distinguished career of 35 years with the Okeechobee County School Board. Okeechobee County, located in south central Florida, is approximately 90 miles south of Orlando and 40 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The City of Okeechobee is the only incorporated area within Okeechobee County. The city has approximately 6,000 residents and an additional 34,000 people live in the county. Agriculture, including dairy farming and beef cattle ranching, is the leading private sector industries followed by tourism. As the largest employer in Okeechobee County, the school district employees approximately 900 regular employees. With an enrollment of over 6,300 students, the district has experienced slow, steady growth throughout the modern era. Currently there are five elementary schools, two middle schools, one freshman campus, one regular high school, and one alternative combination school which are modern facilities or completely renovated historical buildings. While maintaining a strong partnership with community members and area businesses, the Okeechobee County School Board is driven to serve the community and enhance students' lives by delivering the highest quality education in a culture of dedication, collaboration, and learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
The School Board is prepared to offer up to a three-year contract with a salary range of $130,000 - $149,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications, with competitive benefits. Candidates selected as finalists must be available for on-site interviews on May 21 and 22, 2024. The projected position start date is July 1, 2024, with a transition period being established subject to contract negotiations with the School Board.
