JOB DUTIES: Research Scientist for Eastman Chemical Company at its facilities in Springfield, MA. Drive programs focused on product design and application development of interlayer films used within automotive windscreen Heads-up-Display (HUD) applications utilizing polymeric materials. Identify the special challenges of HUD system design and how interlayer product contributes to system success in automotive applications. Serve as technical expert to interact with internal and external stakeholders regarding HUD interlayers. Collaborate with internal functions in R&D, Technical Service, New Business Development, Marketing and Product management to identify key unmet needs of targeted customers. Capture knowledge of safety glass interlayer-containing parts from competitors and customers and translate the unmet needs into well-defined technical criteria for planning and execution of scientific projects which provide innovative, optimized and value-added technical solutions to the end-markets.
REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Polymer Chemistry or Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or closely related field.
Experience must include two (2) years post bachelor progressive experience in all of the following: Product Development utilizing research output, including data and novel breakthroughs, based on Process-Structure-Property-Performance relationships in polymeric systems; Development of methods and protocols for fast prototyping of products through evaluation and optimization of polymer processing methods; Critical analyses of data to determine fitness for use of new polymers and polymer formulations at downstream polymer processors and customers; Polymer application and development working with plastic processors to ensure adoption of new products; Intellectual property (IP) including patent creation using processes, producing products, and serving applications in end market space.
