JOB DUTIES: 

• Create dietary supplement formulations for capsules, liquids, and powder delivery systems based on customer requirements.
• Reverse engineer dietary supplement formulations for capsules, liquids, and powder delivery systems as needed.
• Build a stock formulation library that can be offered to prospective customers.
• Identify and research dietary ingredients that have substantiation to support health benefits.
• Research prospective new products for clients or stock formula library.
• Writes preliminary formulas to evaluate pricing.
• Create benchtop samples for new products for customer submission and/or sales pitches. 
• Prepares qualitative ingredient listings, formula approval forms, and pricing reports for sample submissions.
• Evaluates customer product redirects and adjusts formulas accordingly.
• Assists with sales presentations, outlining ingredients and benefits.
• Create a tracking system for R&D activities to be monitored by other key stakeholders.
• Review and establish basic specifications for raw materials. 
• Stay up to date on industry and ingredient/delivery form trends and innovation to ensure formulas developed are relevant.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with key vendors.
• Support the procurement/sourcing team to course and qualify new ingredients as well as ingredient substitutions/replacements. 
• Maintain/create/review Master Production Records (MPR’s) for all existing and new products and batch sizes.
• Review and rework existing formulas as needed per customer request or if product testing has been out of specification. 
• Create sub-lots of large batches for operations, then print off and review/sign production sheets.
• Assist the mixing team with questions about procedures and ingredients during the mixing process when needed. Sometimes lending hands on assistance.
• Collaborate with quality and production for pilot and scale-up batches of new products and re-works of ongoing products. 
• Collaborate with operations to update production sheets and MMR’s with new and more clearly defined mixing instructions as needed. 
• Assist production in adjusting production sheets or calculating finished goods expectations based on WIP produced.
• Assist production and quality with any technical questions that are asked.
• Communicate with all relevant stakeholders on project timelines, scopes, and objectives.
• Create and maintain any relevant SOP’s to R&D.
• Keep the laboratory stocked and prepped for upcoming business needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the dietary supplement or similar industry. 
• Must possess knowledge of dietary supplements and/or pharmaceuticals.
• Requires understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
• Preferred experience with DSHEA, Prop-65, FDA and FTC regulations.
• Familiar with industry terminology and scientific techniques of a laboratory environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
• Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/ projects, and work within deadlines.
• Willing to manage large laboratory equipment.
• High level of integrity and a strong work ethic, with an ability to learn quickly, successfully initiate skills and follow instructions learned in training.
• Strong interpersonal skills, hands-on attitude and willing to learn and contribute to task objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task, and work comfortably and effectively within a diverse, multicultural team environment.
• Good writing skills and an ability to keep written and digital records.
• Experience using LIMS/WMS/MES software
