  • The Wave Transport in Complex Systems group at the Physics Department of Wesleyan University has a Research Scientist position available.
    Under the direction of Dr. Tsampikos Kottos, the Research Scientist will be working on the research effort “Enhanced Radiated Power via Engineering Eigenbasis Collapse” funded by the DoE. The project aims to design and implement: (a) Enhanced CW and pulsed emission from resonant-EPD-supporting, linear, nonlinear, and time-modulated RF circuits, and frequency convertors, which surpass the traditional Purcell effect; (b) Unidirectional, impurity-tolerant, low-noise microwave amplifiers and masers based on non-resonant EPDs associated with degeneracies of Bloch-modes of non-reciprocal periodic media; © Inverse-designed 3D printable compact beam combiners for converting partially coherent radiation out of basic EPD- units into a high-power collimated beam.
    Responsibilities include:
    • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students
    • Manuscript preparation and editing and conference presentations.
    • Assisting in grant preparation and grant applications
    • Other duties as assigned


    This is an on-campus position and the position is approved for two years with the potential to extend another year.

    Minimum Qualifications
    PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field
    Knowledge of theory of metamaterials and specifically non-hermitian wave transport.
    Knowledge of coupled mode theory
    Experience testing theoretical concepts of wave propagation in complex media via simulations using software packages (such as COMSOL, SPICE etc)
    Knowledge of using EM softwares like e.g. COMSL, NGspice, DST.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in analogue circuitry design including lump and RF distributed circuits
    Experience in PCB design and testing and experience operating with microwave test equipment (VNA, oscilloscopes, etc) will be highly appreciated.
    Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds
    Expertise in using VNA and RF circuitry development.
