    AMA is seeking a scientific data analyst/research scientist to support NASA Langley Research Center's Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Group in Hampton, VA.

    Job Description

    AMA is seeking a research scientist to support NASA Langley Research Center's Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Group, focusing on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) based radiative transfer models (RTM) for satellite data analysis. This effort involves using current physics-based RTMs and retrieval algorithms to train AI-based models to improve computational speed, analyzing and validating the resulting models through comparison with existing models and satellite data, and helping the team deploy the developed models for remote sensing applications. This role will also involve using satellite and aircraft remote sensing data, running various scientific code on the NASA supercomputer system to generate simulation results, exploring other modeling approaches, and preparing or assisting in preparation of technical reports and presentations to communicate project progress.

    Required Qualifications

    • Master's degree in computer science, physical science, or engineering
    • Three (3) or more years of experience in scientific data analysis or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Expertise in the use of physics-based radiative transfer models for atmospheric research
    • Expertise in AI, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, or Machine Learning (ML)
    • Expertise programing with Python and Linux
    • Good interpersonal and team skills
    • Ability to meet NASA's background investigation requirements for IT and physical access to NASA facilities
    • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required due to facility requirements.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Scientific programming experience using Fortran, IDL, or MATLAB
    • Familiarity with scientific data formats (netCDF, HDF, EOS-HDF)
    • Familiarity with remote sensing data and related data processing
    • Solid oral and written communication skills
