    Codomax is a biotech startup company that develops omics-driven and computationally enhanced proteins for human health and nutrition. A spin-out from MIT and the University of Albany and located in Worcester, MA, we are a rapidly growing start-up that embraces a fast-paced, self-starting, and innovative environment. Our mission is to enable the highly efficient and low-cost production of difficult-to-express bio-industrial and cellular agriculture proteins by leveraging our proprietary Epi-MAX platform technology.

    We are seeking a research scientist with expertise in cell culture (bacterial, yeast, and/or mammalian), strain engineering, protein expression and protein quantification. The candidate will be part of a small multi-disciplinary team of scientists and report to the Chief Scientific Officer. The successful candidate will be a self-driven, motivated, and detail-oriented individual that works well in multi-disciplinary teams and has prior experience with cell culture and protein production.

    · Maintain and optimize bacterial, yeast, and CHO cell cultures to express recombinant proteins

    · Perform molecular cloning (PCR, restriction digestion, Gibson assembly, plasmid preparation, gel electrophoresis) to construct protein expression vectors and transfect the vectors into cells

    · Conduct strain engineering experiments to construct engineered cell lines expressing recombinant proteins

    · Isolate and purify recombinant proteins from intracellular and secreted cellular production

    · Perform SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis, and functional assays to characterize recombinant proteins

    · Analyze data and maintain detailed records of your experimental work and data analysis

    Required minimum qualifications:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

    · Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences (biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, chemistry)- position title will be dependent on background and experience

    · Prior hands-on experience in an academic or industry laboratory with yeast cell culture and protein production

    · Basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid preparation)

    · Collaborative attitude and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

    · Detail-orientated, ability to think critically, and perform experiments independently and rigorously

    Preferred qualifications:

    · CHO cell culture experience (aseptic techniques, transfections, suspension/adherent cultures)

    · Hands-on experience with protein purification protocols

    · Experience with LC-MS

    · Experience with gene editing techniques

    · Master’s degree or Ph.D. (recent graduates) in the biological sciences (biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, chemistry)- position title will be dependent on background and experience

    The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
