POSITION DESCRIPTION

Hartwood Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Tailor/Seamstress to fit, mark, alter and repair clothing. The candidate will take measurements from or fit garment(s) to the customer to determine the type, and extent of cutting required and will mark garments accordingly. The Tailor/Seamstress maintains an adequate stock of supplies, equipment, and working area, and may supervise the activities of the sewing machine operator or other related workers. The Tailor will read and accurately identify the customer’s needs per the Work Instruction Document.

This position is full-time, 35-40 hours weekly, located at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. The candidate will be working 100% on the client site. Pay and benefits are subject to stipulations under the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act and Executive Order 13706.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Insert or eliminate padding in shoulders, taper seams without distorting the drape and proportions of the garment
• Re-sew garment using needle and thread or sewing machine, repair or replace defective garment parts such as snaps, zippers, buttons, buckles, pockets, pocket flaps, and coat linings, shorten or lengthen sleeves or legs
• Expands or narrows waist and chest raises or lowers collar, and sets sleeves to armholes
• Take necessary measurements and mark garments for alterations with the ability to problem-solve individual sizing issues
• Perform uniform sewing, alternations, and embellishments with accuracy and efficiency to include taking up stride, lengthening/shortening tails on shirts, tapering shirts, adjusting waists, hemming trousers, mending tears, replacing zippers, applying patches, applying name strips, applying striping, and applying patches
• Operate industrial sewing machinery and meet production deadlines
• Check the quality of work to assure that it meets all specifications.
• Achieve production and efficiency goals within established quality standards
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or plant manager

REQUIRED EDUCATION

H.S. Diploma/GED

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

One (1) year sewing operations/manufacturing environment within fast-paced time; limited repair time frames

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Certificate or degree in major/field such as Associate of Applied Science in Fashion Design or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design
• 3-5 years’ experience within professional/commercial alterations facilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time; dexterity for detail work, good eyesight, and attention to detail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

Indoor conditioned spaces; sitting/standing for periods of time; repetitive tasking using machinery, sharp objects (sewing needles).
