      PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Dean of Curriculum provides leadership at the district level in curriculum development, revision, and review that supports district initiatives and promotes shared ownership of the curriculum; supports teachers as they implement curriculum; provides support to ensure retention of highly qualified teachers; analyzes achievement data at the district and building levels; provides leadership in the process of assessment development; and guides necessary changes to achieve excellence and equity.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
      • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.
      • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
      • Collaboratively establishes and monitors implementation of a guaranteed and viable secondary math curriculum, based on best practice research and in accordance with district guidelines, aligned with national, state, and local adopted standards, to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across learning programs.
      • Develops capacity to apply the continuous improvement process, especially as it relates to secondary math curriculum implementation, instructional shifts, assessment practices, and professional learning.
      • Provides and/or aligns professional learning in secondary math curriculum, instruction, and assessment with school and system goals and aligns own professional learning with system-wide professional learning goals.
      • Develops capacity to analyze and interpret data, including educator performance standards and student learning outcomes, to inform decisions that impact secondary math curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning.
      • Distributes assessment materials; monitors compliance with assessment procedures and appropriate accommodations; collects data on participation and possible irregularities; analyzes district-wide assessment (Type I and II) data to drive curricular and assessment decisions; reports assessment results to buildings, stakeholders, and district leadership as needed; plans and assesses current district assessment program.
      • Facilitates Curriculum Leadership Teams and provides professional learning for teams as needed.
      • Facilitates selection, identification and development of high-yield instructional frameworks, strategies, units of instruction, lesson design, and resources to support all students in the learning process.
      • Responsible for all facets of secondary math Standard of Practice observations that support the Systemwide Framework. This includes but is not limited to; scheduling observations, conducting observations, scoring, analyzing data, data entry, and debriefing with principal and teacher post observation.
      • Facilitates and coordinates curricular pilots, where applicable.
      • Communicates with parents and families to support learning.
      • Builds capacity for, cultivates, and maintains a collaborative culture, including norms for high expectations, collective responsibility, mutual respect, relational trust, and addressing assumptions and barriers that prevent a systemic collaborative culture.

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Must hold current professional educator license, with preferred endorsements in Secondary Mathematics.
      • Previous successful experience as a teacher.

      WORK CALENDAR: 12 Months

      WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
