Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Fresh Department Manager to oversee the operations of our kitchen, bakery and deli. As our Fresh Department Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the assignment and evaluation of work for all food production and the sales areas and achieving departmental goals. This management role is hands-on and does requires strong administrative and leadership skills.
Duties
- Sets an example of service, hospitality and cooperation to the Fresh Department team members discouraging and addressing conflict and gossiping that would hinder customer service excellence
- Supervises cooking, baking and service personnel .
- Samples, smells, and observes food to ensure conformance to recipes and Burkholder's standards of appearance, taste, and freshness
- Manage and lead a team of employees, providing guidance and support
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve departmental goals
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure stock availability
- Coordinates and oversees periodic inventory counts
- Stay updated on industry trends by attending trade shows for new products, food ideas and equipment
- Maintains procedures for tracking cost, waste, and quality control
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize overall store performance
- Hires, schedules, trains, supervises, evaluates, and motivates Fresh Department staff
- Conducts oneself in a professional and respectful manner, exhibiting integrity and honesty at all times
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
- Handle customer complaints or inquiries in a professional manner
- Maintain a clean and organized department
- Performs other duties as requested or required
Qualifications
- Proven leadership and food production experience
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
- Proficient in math for inventory management, product costing, and financial analysis
- Experience in recruiting, interviewing, and training employees
- Ability to handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, ordering, and food costing
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including nights and Saturdays, Works at least one opening and closing shift a week in order to monitor and teach the procedure expectations of the department
- Possess a strong culinary aptitude from work and /or educational experience
- Ability to create new and appetizing items for in-store (bakery, hot bar and salad case) and catering customers
- Ability to deal with other team members in a straightforward and honest manner in order to facilitate cooperation and constant improvement in teamwork, and therefore the success of Burkholder's Market
Education/Experience
- Associates Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or at least three (3) years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
