Job Duties/Responsibilities: | |
• | Performs clinical laboratory examinations on blood or body fluids |
• | Operates analytical equipment in performance of analytical testing |
• | Maintains and troubleshoots analyzers to ensure proper function |
• | Performs and evaluates quality control activities to validate proper test performance |
• | Classifies, enumerates, and evaluates blood cells |
• | Microscopically examines fluids and sediments to identify and enumerate components |
• | Inoculates media with clinical specimens to encourage microbial growth |
• | Performs atypical antibody screening and compatibility testing to prepare donor blood units for transfusion |
• | Performs pre-analytical assessments of specimens to identify potential interferences to testing |
• | Collects patient specimens by venipuncture or capillary incision |
• | Performs other duties as assigned |

• | Associate degree in Medical Laboratory or Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology |

• | Can perform venipuncture and capillary incision |
• | Fluent in written and spoken English |
• | Competent in all general areas of the laboratory |
• | Able to perform basic laboratory mathematics functions |
• | Can utilize problem-solving skills adeptly to the situation |
• | Properly documents quality control failures, instrument errors, etc. |
• | Has familiarity with computer information systems |
• | Can properly assess and evaluate quality control results |
Preferred Skills: | |
• | Two or more years of experience working in a hospital-based clinical laboratory |
