Security Coordinator administers, coordinates, and evaluates security programs that support the strategy, policies, and standards established for the physical safety of all visitors, employees, or customers to the organization's facilities and the security of property and assets. Compiles data and analyzes results of audits, inspections, daily logs, and incident reports to assess security vulnerabilities, measure program effectiveness, and identify the need for additional resources. Being a Security Coordinator coordinates any required security clearance processing or investigative research for employees or job candidates with applicable entities. Assists with the development of training, education programs, and communications on security policies and topics to ensure staff is prepared for potential security issues, crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence, and other emergency events. Additionally, Security Coordinator monitors communications and stays informed about local, state, provincial, or federal security-related information, directives, and events. May coordinate or assist with investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials. Understands law enforcement methods, tactics, and procedures. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Security Coordinator work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. To be a Security Coordinator typically requires 7+ years of related experience.     Summary Description of Classification:

    The Network Data and Security Coordinator Manages the information security risk assessment process for the Bibb County School District. Main responsibility is to provide a safe and reliable environment for all students, staff and stakeholders of the district. This position will monitor network activity inside of the system network and set parameters and restrictions to ensure a stable and secure network. This position will also manage the content filtering platform for all devices as well as a single sign-on software. In addition, this position will create a district Microsoft Share point infrastructure for all district departments and schools in order to provide a systemic resource/collaborative platform.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
    2. Protects network from unauthorized access.
    3. Performs systems and network analysis of intrusions.
    4. Performs risk analysis and vulnerability testing.
    5. Ensures the safety of information systems assets and protects systems from access or destruction.
    6. Identifies, reports and resolves security violations.
    7. Prepares and documents standard procedures and protocols for network security.
    8. Manages internal server network shares and permissions.
    9. Assesses firewall change requests to determine organizational risk.
    10. Provides strategic and real time auditing of security-related activities to detect and prioritize threat responses.
    11. Monitors network activity and ensures data is protected from unauthorized users.
    12. Monitors network usage and resolves access issues.
    13. Monitors information security alerts and resolve as needed.
    14. Recognizes intrusion attempts and compromises through reviews and analysis of relevant event details and summary information provided by network tools.
    15. Review new tools needed for additional security.
    16. Coordinates security audits and communicates results to the Chief Information Officer.
    17. Reviews security events that may impact overall security and network performance.
    18. Implements network security policies.
    19. Instructs computer users on security policies and procedures.
    20. Installs and maintains security software.
    21. Remediates areas of non-compliance by implementing automated policy enforcement whenever and wherever possible.
    22. Provides recommended solutions for potential security issues.
    23. Pursues necessary changes of critical tasks identified from audits.
    24. Develops, documents and communicates network security policies and procedures.
    25. Assists in oversight, and ongoing management of the information security programs and technical systems throughout the district.
    26. Evaluates information security systems and applications and recommends enhancements.
    27. Defines risk management plans to ensure alignment with industry standard and system strategic goals.
    28. Manage security platforms and ensure current updates and optimal performance. 
    29. Meet with vendors to stay abreast of new technologies.
    30. Make recommendations on best security practices for our District.
    31. Communicate with the appropriate department or school admin on matters of concern.
    32. Administration of email archive database.
    33. Processes all security requests concerning data.

    Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

    1. Must possess detailed knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding education/information technology. Specifically: FERPA. CIPA. COPA. PPRA and SB 89.
    2. Must possess a broad knowledge of technology as it relates to education and business.
    3. Ability to draw from other disciplines (corporate business partners, government and community groups) to achieve goals and set new objectives.
    4. Possess leadership, management and communication skills.
    5. Must possess the ability to investigate potential threats, risks and recommend best practices.
    6. Possess the skill to manage multiple tasks and set priorities.

    Education, Training and Experience:

    1. Computer Science Degree and/or a minimum of 5 years of successful work related experience in education technology/computer science position.
    2. Previous experience with education software programs and infrastructure anti-virus and content filtering platforms.
    3. Experience performing multiple system and software risk assessments and analysis.

    SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:

    1. 239 day work year; eight (8) hours per day.
    2. Salary Range: Grade 86, $42.30 - $47.66 hourly (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience).
    3. Excellent benefits package:  includes health insurance; dental and life insurance; employee assistance program; personal and sick leave; membership in Teachers' Retirement System.
