The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications/resumes for a Food Security Coordinator.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the water front city of Perth Amboy.   The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912.  We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility.

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Community Health & Development Initiatives, the Food Security Coordinator will be responsible for managing the food pantry at the Center for Support, Success & Prosperity, as well as the Veggie Wagon located at the Main Y, and the “Mission on the Move” mobile distribution vehicle in partnership with Replenish, the county food bank. The Food Security Coordinator will continue working with local partners to implement outreach efforts to provide fresh food items and nutrition education to close the gap among Latino and families and others in Middlesex County and to provide free and healthy food choices. The Food Security Coordinator will also be responsible for assisting in education and marketing campaigns as well as coordinating focus groups and survey responses.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education/Certification

• Associate’s degree obtained (or in progress) 
• 2 years’ experience minimum in related field preferred (Volunteer experience with food distribution will also be accepted in lieu of years’ experience)

B. Skills: 

• Bilingual-English/Spanish both oral and written.
• Ability to carry out instructions independently. 
• Ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to diffuse conflict effectively when necessary
• Must have proven skills in problem solving and decision-making

C. Interpersonal Skills:

• Familiar with the culture and mission of the organization.
• Culturally competent with familiarity of Perth Amboy’s community.
• Must be well skilled in Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication and organizational.
• Perth Amboy resident preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to be gracious with all persons of various ages, cultures, and creeds.
• Valid driver’s license with no prior violations record.
