Security Coordinator administers, coordinates, and evaluates security programs that support the strategy, policies, and standards established for the physical safety of all visitors, employees, or customers to the organization's facilities and the security of property and assets. Compiles data and analyzes results of audits, inspections, daily logs, and incident reports to assess security vulnerabilities, measure program effectiveness, and identify the need for additional resources. Being a Security Coordinator coordinates any required security clearance processing or investigative research for employees or job candidates with applicable entities. Assists with the development of training, education programs, and communications on security policies and topics to ensure staff is prepared for potential security issues, crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence, and other emergency events. Additionally, Security Coordinator monitors communications and stays informed about local, state, provincial, or federal security-related information, directives, and events. May coordinate or assist with investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials. Understands law enforcement methods, tactics, and procedures. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Security Coordinator work is highly independent. Under limited supervision this position insures the safety of all Jail employees, visitors, and inmates by controlling, observing, and logging all internal and external Jail movement using remotely controlled doors, gates, cameras, visual monitors, intercom systems, two-way radios and computer systems. This position relays and prioritizes calls that require Deputy action and maintains constant observation of inmates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitors and operates specialized equipment such as visual monitors and touch screen control system; and logs all movement to include: Jail Officers, inmates, and members of the public, within and outside of the jail.
Directs high security and segregated inmate movement via an intercom system to monitor and document daily movements and routines such as showers, recreation, access to legal counsel, etc.
Monitors and manages use of all doors and gates with visual surveillance monitors and intercom systems requiring prioritizing and multi-tasking skills.
Communicates directly with Jail Officers via radio/intercom to assist in performing housing area responsibilities.
Coordinates, monitors, and operates base radio system.
Answers the telephone and provides information on inmates and Jail-related policies and procedures to law enforcement staff, court officials and the general public and transfers calls to the appropriate authority.
Identifies and reports potential safety hazards, security threats, disturbances, and irregularities to the shift supervisor.
Monitors and reports inmate rule violations to Jail Officers.
Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and working relationship with the department supervisor and departmental employees, and the public.
Staff may be required or requested to work overtime as stipulated by Policy.
May be required to appear in court as a witness.
Maintain supplies and clean the shared work space.
Must successfully pass the Facilities pre-employment and subsequent random drug testing. To include a stringent Facility background and selection process. This position requires the employee to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shift schedules covering twenty-four (24)-hour periods. Five (5)-eight (8) hour shifts weekly, with two (2) consecutive days off.
