SECURITY SUPERVISOR supervises a team of security guards that ensure the physical safety of all visitors, employees, or customers to the organization's facilities and the security of property and assets. Schedules security guard staff shifts. Being a SECURITY SUPERVISOR assigns guards to patrol and inspect of buildings and grounds. Ensures protection from intruders, fire hazards, theft, and vandalism. Additionally, SECURITY SUPERVISOR monitors security systems and responds to alarms, reports of issues, or requests for assistance. Ensures that all security events are logged, documented, and reported using standard procedures. Trains staff on policies and procedures for crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence, and other emergency events. Updates team on local, state, provincial, or federal security-related information, directives, and events. Assists with investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials. Understands law enforcement methods, tactics, and procedures. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Basic Life Support (BLS). Typically reports to a manager. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. INTRODUCTION
Functions under the direct supervision of the Security Director and Facility Director, however, has considerable latitude in making independent professional decisions and recommendations for actions that can have serious impact on residents lives. Provides direction and guidance to all staff utilizing sound correctional practices and procedures. The duties of this position require direct constant contact with individuals in confinement who are suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States. This position has continuous contact with residents, staff and other criminal justice agencies and is required to be responsive to their needs. This position is a paraprofessional role involving interpersonal and technical skills. Personnel may be required to work weekends and rotating shifts. Work is performed inside and outside of the facility depending on the nature of the assignment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES
Has direct responsibility for the security of the facility and the security supervision of all residents. Collaborates with the Director in the design and execution of studies determining program effectiveness and the need for modifications and improvement. Maintain accurate and current records and reports on all residents as deemed necessary by the Director. Observe, record, and report any conduct of residents which is in violation of the policies and procedures of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Must be familiar with the center?s emergency plans of the center. Is subject to call in cases of emergency.
