Job Opening: Onboard Service Attendant

Job Summary

Onboard Service Staff (OBS) perform a variety of activities as part of our guest experiences. OBS

Staff serve as attendants in our dome car, lounge car, dining cars, and or concession car. One will be asked to serve drinks, food, and snacks, and provide knowledge of the local area and railroad as part of our guest experience. Enthusiastic, energetic, and motivated team players are key to creating a memorable experience for all to enjoy.

Essential Functions

• Maintain a habitual smile
• Ensure a memorable train experience for all passengers by delivering the highest level of customer service.
• Shares the history of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and the Surrounding areas.
• Shares and provides guests with local happenings, and great experiences outside of the railroad, to ensure they have the best experiences when visiting our region.
• Ensures onboard passenger comfort and safety at all times
• Assists in passenger car preparation for the scheduled run, which includes stocking food, beverages, and merchandise on board.
• Check the train for cleanliness and make sure the train is ready for the customer’s experience. Clean passenger cars including concession, passenger areas, and restrooms in-between runs and at end of shift.
• Assists in passenger boarding and de-boarding, and monitors passenger safety while the train is running.
• Serve fully cooked meals onboard the railroad’s brunch, dinner, and murder mystery trains. Set up and serve snacks and appetizers on the railroad’s dome and lounge cars.
• Provide beverage service, including making and serving adult beverages.
• Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
• Regular and timely attendance is required for this position
• Provided and ensure great customer experience on the railroad’s event trains, such as

Polar Express, Spring Fling, Moonlight on the Mountain, etc. The position may require dressing up, playing characters, and participating in onboard entertainment.

• Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work. Create a memorable experience for all.

Skills, knowledge, and Abilities

• Ability to work well with people
• Must have good oral communication skills and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service including speaking, performing, and interacting with passengers
• Ability to work flexible schedules as needed for weekends, evenings, holidays, special events, and programs.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, count money, and make change correctly.
• Ability to use iPad, Square selling software, ticketing system, credit card machine, and perform basic math functions.
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs. and work inside and outside in all kinds of weather as required.
• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills, tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Must enjoy working with the public in a hospitality atmosphere.
• Must have Reliable transportation.
• Must be able to work for long hours and stand for extended periods.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is looking for energetic, fun, customer service-oriented individuals to join our Onboard Service
Staff Team and exceed our guests’ expectations.

Pay: $15 an hour plus tips.

This is a full-time position, with the option to partake in the company’s benefit plans. The average work week will be Wednesday-Sunday. Working weekends and holidays will be required. Work days can start as early as 7 am or work as late as 11 pm, depending on shifts. The railroad enforces a drug-free workplace and has a random drug test policy. Job is for individuals 21 years of age or older.
