Hours per Week: 25-40

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Provide direct services to participants receiving mental health and/or substance treatment.
• Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities.
• Interact with the youth as a peer by sharing common experiences and modeling resiliency and recovery
• Assist youth in understanding components of recovery and resiliency and in applying skills to achieve life goals.
• Provide individualized direct support to peers according to that person’s plan by supporting the individual’s choice and building confidence, leading to a greater degree of independence.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups from diverse populations.
• Support agency staff in efforts to engage youth in services.
• Participate in the development and implementation of workshops/groups to help promote empowerment, advocacy, and life skills through agency resources.
• Models recovery-oriented behavior. Effectively shares their own story in a way that builds connections, confidence, and hope for the youth and family.
• Provides education on issues related to mental health.
• Assists clients in identifying their personal goals.
• Working in classroom settings with elementary to high school students.
• Models and teaches good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies to individuals and groups.
• All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be an individual who is at least eighteen (18) years of age and is not older than thirty-five (35) years of age

• Have lived experience
• Be receiving or have received from at least one (1) child-serving agency a state-funded service that is related to the youth's emotional, social, behavioral, or substance abuse disability
• Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) certificate
• Have successfully completed the KFLA training approved by the department
• Discuss the experience of receiving state-funded services from at least one (1) child-serving agency on the applicant's responses on the short-essay form
• Demonstrate experience with leadership and advocacy in the field of behavioral health
• Demonstrate the applicant’s own efforts at self-directed leadership development.
• Have a current or past diagnosis of a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders and have received or receiving treatment.
• Able to demonstrate a pattern of recovery from a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will be able to work successfully under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience working with persons who have co-occurring disorders.
• Crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and stress management skills.
• Must be willing to undergo a criminal history background check.

• Ability to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share a basic commonality, including value systems and behavior norms.
• Demonstrate good writing and organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
• A valid state driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
