    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker will report to the Facilities Manager and under the general direction of the Facilities Director; the incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance, sampling and upkeep of the Community Water and Sewer Systems in conjunction with the NHBPI Environmental Department, MDEQ and EPA on the Pine Creek Indian Reservation. Must also respond to all water and sewer alarm emergencies, water breaks, sewer line backups etc. This position may incur responsibilities outside of the regular scheduled work week and may encompass evening and weekends. This position requires incumbent to be on standby status.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete, and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.
    • Inspects the water system for proper operations and maintains records of the amount of water that is pumped daily.
    • Record the amount of chlorine used and takes chlorine tank reading from gage.
    • Checks meters, gauges, pumps, and control panels to verify correct operation of equipment and records information.
    • Performs sample testing duties for water/wastewater facilities which include: BOD’s, total solids, total suspended solids, fecal coliform, bacti’s, and temperatures, and other sampling as needed.
    • Test for: Phosphates, PH’s, ammonia, nitrates, and chloride residuals.
    • Operates and maintains pumps, control panels, chlorinators, and chemical feed pumps. Inspects lift stations for proper operation of motors and pumps.
    • Monitors and repairs plant equipment including cleaning and servicing and performing annual inspections.
    • Maintains, modifies or repairs instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flow meter and other water quality monitoring equipment.
    • Maintains, operates, repairs and replaces equipment as necessary.
    • Locates and repairs water and sewer mains.
    • Maintains and repairs fire hydrants, well house structures.
    • Jets sewer lines.
    • Maintains drawings and schematics of electrical and other systems in the treatment plant.
    • Operates and maintains sewage pump stations.
    • Work with outside contractors on new construction or updates to the system.
    • Attends safety meetings and follows safety precautions according to OSHA standards.
    • Logs completed daily maintenance.
    • Monitors performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment of the well house and lift stations.
    • Cleans lift stations and operates pumps and valves to control and adjust flow and treatment process.
    • Assures that plant operates within required standards set by EPA, MDEQ, OSHA standards.
    • Attends training to maintain certifications and proficiencies in associated tasks and stays current in water requirements and applicable legislation.
    • Responds to all water and sewer alarm emergencies.
    • This position will require the incumbent to operate on a stand by status.
    • Perform daily, monthly and yearly samplings, records info, and reports to proper agencies.
    • Perform a variety of ground and troubleshooting tasks and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
    • Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment. Uses Microsoft Office computer programs to perform some of these administrative tasks.
    • Provide preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or services.
    • Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles.
    • Works with manual and power tools to perform duties.
    • Must have experience in driving dump trucks, mini excavator, backhoe and trench boxes.
    • Assistance with event set-up and break-down as needed.
    • Performs or schedules routine and preventive maintenance and repairs for designated buildings, facilities and equipment, ensuring technical operations is in proper running order.
    • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
    • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists co-workers in solving work problems.
    • Assist in developing associated NHBP guidance, policies, and procedures.
    • Assist in snow removal duties, primarily removing snow from established roadways
    • Works to ensure backups to systems and processes are available and keeps management updated on operations.
    • Performs other assigned duties as requested by management.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    An applicant’s education, training and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the ability to successfully perform each of the essential functions.     • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Two to Three years minimum in a Water & Sewer treatment position.
    • All required licenses and certificates must be in good standings with the MDEQ, EPA.
    • Must produce a copy of license and keep license current with CEC’s.
    • Applicant must report any violations or claims against their license.
    • Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug test; must not have been found guilty of, or pled guilty or no contest to, any felony or misdemeanor offense under federal, state or tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, prostitution, or other crimes against persons, or offenses committed against children. Ability to understand, gain knowledge and appreciate the differences with the Native American culture and customs
    • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record; GSA certifiable.
    • Must be able to travel.
    • Must be in good physical condition, able to lift up to 60 lbs. overhead.
    • Able to perform strenuous and repetitive physical labor.
    • Knowledge of Universal Precautions.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, houses or other structures.
    • Ability to work well independently and with team members and other staff in a team-oriented environment.
    • Able to operate small and medium size mechanical equipment.
    • Ability to learn and follow safety rules.
    • Willingness to learn new skills as required.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES
    • Required to have a minimum of S4 – Water Distribution license.
    • Required to have a minimum of D4 - Limited Treatment license.
    • Required to have a minimum of SC - Waste Water license.
    • CDL-B Driver’s license.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Three to five years of experience in Water and sewer treatment position
    • Knowledge of OSHA and HUD safety and building codes.
    • Working knowledge of Electrical repairs and HVAC repairs.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT
