Sheetmetal Mechanic sets up and operates machines such as drill presses, punch presses, saws, shears, bending rolls, brakes, grinders, and numerical control equipment to shape and alter sheetmetal according to specifications. Follows blueprints, rough sketches, or engineer drawings to shape metal accurately. Being a Sheetmetal Mechanic uses hand and power tools to shape, cut, and smooth metal and to blend seams. May set up and operate soldering and welding equipment. Additionally, Sheetmetal Mechanic typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Sheetmetal Apprenticeship. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Sheetmetal Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     What would you do as a Mechanic

    The Mechanic position at Golden Valley Electric Association Healy Power Plants is a key role responsible for the maintenance of various power plant mechanical equipment. From turbine generators to piping systems, the Mechanic ensures the reliability and efficiency of essential equipment. This position involves troubleshooting mechanical issues, coordinating with contractors, training Plant Technicians, and potentially working on capital projects.

    The Mechanic must be prepared to handle emergency maintenance outside of regular hours and adhere to the high standards set forth in the Personnel Qualifications Checklist (PQC) program.     Requirements for this Mechanic job

    The successful candidate for the Mechanic position at Golden Valley Electric Association should possess a High School diploma or equivalent, with additional training in first aid or CPR procedures. Preferred qualifications include previous confined space and respirator training, or the ability to become proficient within 30 days of hire. A valid Alaska driver's license is required for this role. Strong technical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment effectively are essential for this position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safety protocols and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.

    Additionally, strong communication skills and the willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies are crucial for success in this role.

    Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

    • High School Graduate or equivalent.
    • Valid first aid or CPR cards or the ability to certify for the procedures.
