Sheetmetal Mechanic sets up and operates machines such as drill presses, punch presses, saws, shears, bending rolls, brakes, grinders, and numerical control equipment to shape and alter sheetmetal according to specifications. Follows blueprints, rough sketches, or engineer drawings to shape metal accurately. Being a Sheetmetal Mechanic uses hand and power tools to shape, cut, and smooth metal and to blend seams. May set up and operate soldering and welding equipment. Additionally, Sheetmetal Mechanic typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Sheetmetal Apprenticeship. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Sheetmetal Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. SEMSA was established to oversee SEMSA Air and SEMSA ground operations and to coordinate emergency medical service activities through a central emergency medical communications center.

Perform repair work on vehicles such as breakdowns and malfunctions to manufacturer’s guidelines to maintain the safety and reliability of the unit. Key Result Areas A. Physical Effort/Working Conditions
This position will require working on, with and around 20 or more emergency ambulances and other vehicles. The incumbent is required to lift over 100 pounds as many times as 20 times per day. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, climb, twist, bend, push/pull, run, sit, squat, kneel, and work in awkward positions from all types of locations and within the ambulance vehicles. Must be able to grasp tools and discern color. Will be required to operate high pressure air and power-washing equipment, and common vehicular shop tools and equipment. May be required to wear a special uniform and protective devices. May be exposed to blood and body fluids that will require special precautions. Hazards also include working with chemicals, power tools, inclement weather, and working in a restricted area. EMS is a 24-hour operation therefore working hours and times will vary. Will be required to be on call.
