The Fox Crossing Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Division Chief of Training. Typical working hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; however, training, responding to incidents and other activities will occur outside of these hours.
The Fox Crossing Fire Department is an accredited, progressive and growing fire department located in East-Central Wisconsin, which covers a 14 square mile area. We respond to approximately 1,100 calls for service each year. The Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical first responder services from two stations to approximately 19,239 residents. We provide automatic aid to several surrounding communities and are part of MABAS Division 123. Fire prevention services and community education are two additional services we provide to our community.
Examples of Duties
- Schedules department activities under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Operations such as monthly department activities including monthly training, facility tours, hose testing, capacity testing, crew fire prevention activities, station tours, etc. administers department policies and procedures for the management of instructional resources, staff, facilities, records and reports.
- Develop and maintain annual training schedule to ensure that essential firefighting knowledge, skills, and techniques are being imparted.
- Reviews instructional materials, creates and modifies lesson plans, organizes the classroom, modifies presentations; acquires training resources and conducts classes, to ensure department objectives and learning outcomes are achieved.
- Is responsible for maintenance of skills and certification of department personnel. Records all training activities completed by fire department personnel.
- Creates plans and procedures for the evaluation of instructors, courses and programs, so feedback is obtained. Presents evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations to department leadership to ensure continuous improvement of training and attainment of department training goals.
- Develops a system for the acquisition, storage and dissemination of evaluation results so training goals are supported and those impacted by the information receive feedback consistent with department policies, federal, state and local laws.
- Develops equipment specifications for training related purchases, to ensure all training related materials and equipment are appropriate and support department training goals.
- Prepares detailed budget analysis and plan, so the resources to meet training goals are identified and documented.
- Develops and updates lesson plans and drill scenarios and ensure compliance with current industry standards and regulations.
- Attends and assigns personnel to training classes, seminars, and conferences, both locally and nationally.
- Delivers department orientation training program to all new hires.
- Serves in the capacity of a company officer or incident commander during emergency operations and as a first responder for medical emergencies.
- Performs in the capacity of a firefighter, including all firefighter duties, on emergency scenes and in Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) environments.
- Serves as third in command for the fire department management staff.
Minimum Job Requirements
The minimum qualifications for this position include the following:
- Associate’s Degree or any combination of fire-related education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible fire service experience, with a minimum of two (2) years’ service as a company officer. A Bachelor’s degree in a fire-related field is strongly preferred.
- Applicants must also possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, Wisconsin Certified Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire Instructor I, National Registry First Responder, Driver/Operator – Pumper, Driver/Operator Aerial, and Fire Inspector I. Fire Instructor II and Fire Officer I must be completed within 18 months of hire. Other requirements include NIMS 100/200/300/400/700/800, AHA CPR Instructor certification (within 12 months of hire) and the ability to meet NFPA 1582 medical requirements. Comparable certifications from other states will be considered.
- Response time to station must be 10 minutes or less. Selected candidate must be willing to relocate within the first six (6) months of hire.
The selection process will include: a physical abilities test, oral interviews, skills assessment testing, a medical examination, drug test, and a criminal background check.
