    This leadership position is primarily administrative in nature and provides strategic oversight of operations, administrative tasks, budgeting, and enforcing RMAP program policy and requirements in the field through their leadership team. This position is responsible for overall field operations. This position will oversee multiple Division Chiefs, Battalion Chiefs, and Crews. The Fire Chief provides administrative direction for all mitigation functions, operations, and personnel through the supervision of subordinate staff and review of their activities.

    • $83,000 -$93,000 annually

    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Leads and motivates RMAP personnel to deliver safe and effective service to our clients while sustaining a positive, professional culture and promoting cooperation.
    • Assists in recruiting, hiring, development, scheduling, promotions and demotions.
    • Enforces company discipline policy.
    • Functions as an Incident Liaison when needed.
    • Plans the development of Field employees HR training programs.
    • Able and willing to teach courses as needed.
    • Coordinates implementing new RMAP trends, program changes, program goals and monitors the progress of those changes.
    • Develops, reviews and revises program policies and procedures.
    • Provides advice and counsel to department heads, managers and staff on updating and interpreting programs.
    • Represents the department with the related agencies and the public.
    • Analyzes directives and disseminates relevant information to appropriate assigned personnel.
    • Maintains a Duty Schedule for all assigned employees ensuring annual leave, sick leave and holiday hours are in accordance with company standards.
    • Participates in routine performance reviews of assigned personnel.
    • Reviews timecards, leave requests and expense reports for accuracy/ completeness.
    • Ensures logistical support through appropriate means for incident personnel.
    • Maintains working relationships with other agencies involved in assignments.
    • Attends training as required.
    • May attend industry conferences as needed/required.
    • Provides oversight during initial and extended assignments.
    • Recognizes potential hazardous situations and provides operational briefings.
    • Coordinates with the Command Center regarding current fire behavior and fire conditions, release of resources, and other logistical considerations.
    • Participates in incident objectives, strategies, and tactics to provide for safe operations and cost-effective incident management.
    • Conducts After Action Reviews and offers suggestions for improvement.
    • Ensures preparedness of mitigation equipment and personnel.
    • Conducts field reconnaissance of proposed burn plans as needed.
    • Assists in developing and revising interagency annual operating plans, annual budget requests, the fire management plan and operating procedures pertaining to preparedness, mitigation, and wildland fire suppression.
    • Assists in wildland fire management planning such as fire assistance program coordination, interdisciplinary team participation, NEPA and other compliance document preparation, contracting, fire rehabilitation planning and fire mitigation measures.
    • Assists in organizing fire caches, maintains inventory and accountable property, positions equipment and personnel; evaluates equipment and personnel needs, and develops/prioritizes equipment and personnel funding requests.
    • Assists in conducting local level preparedness reviews and supports state level reviews.
    • Provides technical and administrative supervision. Plans and directs overall work to be accomplished.
    • Sets and adjusts priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
    • Develops performance standards and evaluates work performance of subordinates.
    • Responsible for the on-the-job safety and health of all employees supervised.
    • Responsibly oversee all company owned assets for assigned personnel in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Monitors fire season severity predictions, fire behavior, and fire activity levels and takes appropriate actions to ensure safe, efficient and effective operations.
    • Conduct program reviews to evaluate compliance with policies, objectives, and standards, overall effectiveness of fire business operations, and to provide technical assistance in the solution of specific problems.
    • Participates in the development of management decisions and organizational plans.
    • Formulate regional fire policies, write business plans, and administer programs necessary for the support of RMAP.
    • Provide quality control for RMAP activities.
    • Able to lead operational team calls.

    • Proven experience applying principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
    • Demonstrated history of understanding and implementing a culture of safety consistent with federal, state, and company guidance.
    • Strong record of achievement in developing and implementing safety and training programs.
    • Expert ability using latest technology and software including the Microsoft Office 365 suite of tools.

    Education and Experience

    • Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field, or Meets NFPA 1021 for Fire Officer III, or equivalency; OR NWCG DIVS, ICT3 or RXB2.
    • Required: 20 years of Fire Management experience progressively increasing responsibility operating within a complex emergency response over a large geographical area.
    • Required: Demonstrated experience safely leading and managing a division size contingent of firefighting apparatus and personnel or other emergency response resources.

    Physical Requirements

    • Office (80%): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
    • Field (20%): The position may lift objects under 40 pounds, walk, and stand for long periods of time under adverse field conditions. The employee may lift, push, pull, or carry objects; use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time with minimal fatigue; and effectively jump, sprint, or throw objects.
    • The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have good to excellent stamina.
