May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field. Being a Ship Engineer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. POSITION SUMMARY:
The role assures production has the necessary Welding Procedures to proceed with welding on Commercial, Government, and Facilities contracts by analyzing the needs, developing documentation and publicizing the results for intended usage by the production welding departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The person supervises hourly craft work force.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
The individual will be required to work with union and admin on shop floor and in meetings. He/she will be required to hold training classes and must be comfortable with public speaking.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity. 40% normal office environment; 60% of time spent in production areas. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work.
